I agree 100%! I've never read this "chick book" and have no interest in knowing much about it, but these TV previews look silly. Judd is freakin' 47, people! And she's supposed to pull off a 30ish single woman in the 1970s? LOL!

It's obvious the producers and writer of this thing made accommodations to keep Judd as the star, like aging up all the other characters so it would make sense. All these actors look so OLD for this kind of rom-com.

Now I see why this movie has been shelved since 2014. They were finally forced to release it to try and recoup what money they can from it. It has such a stink on it like those Diane Keaton rom-coms that go straight to video!

I guess somebody didn't actually watch the movie. They changed her age to 40. Knowing is half the battle.

reply

And she hasn't seen 40 for SEVEN years! Um duh, they had to age up all the characters because the leading lady they cast is so old and botoxed.

But then again, this movie was shelved for close to 7 years before they released it, lol.

reply

Once again, let me drop some knowledge on you. The movie was not shelved for 7 years. It was filmed last year.

Should have known that joke would go right over your head. I was referring to Judd being 7 YEARS OLDER than they made her character (and 12 years older than in the book). So for Judd to play 40 it would need to be shelved 7 years (see, that wasn't too complicated, was it?).

Actually the movie was filmed in 2013 and slated for release in early 2014 (so you're 0 for 0 in knowledge). Instead they shelved it almost another two years. That's a LONG time in the movie biz and smacks of serious problems with the film, such as it hasn't tested well in audience screenings, etc...

Look, major elements of the story were altered in order to keep a 47-year-old as the lead character. Pretend all you like that it doesn't matter. Many readers of the book disagree.

Since the author wrote the screenplay and made the changes, I was fine with it.

I Loved the book and enjoyed the movie.

The older you get, the less age matters. 27 vs 20 is a big difference. 47 vs 40 is hardly much difference at all.

reply

Good point. Ugh, getting old sucks!

reply

Damn, everybody ages. I think Ashley Judd looks good for her age even if she had work done.
Some people look like leather ducks when they have work done.

reply

Why are you stuck on the age so much? Really, very very few actors and actresses are the exact age of the characters they play. The character is supposed to be 40, and she's 47. It not likes she's a 76 year old playing 40.

reply

lol well, speaking of age, you sound all of 15.

reply

Why do people say such things? Ashly Judd really doesn't look like she's had anything done..You want to see what Botox and fillers actually look like then check out Nicole Kidman who is about the same age.
But in the real world of a small town where many women do nothing at all age preventative her character could pass for 40.... especially in the 70's.
Ashly Judd looks pretty natural and is still a pretty woman.

You can almost smell the giddy satisfaction coming off a post where someone gets to make some self-righteous yet pointless criticism. I always wonder if people think posts like this make them somehow look powerful or superior, when the truth is they just look small and pitiful.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.
