Did not like this at all...

I loved to this book. Had a friend in college was from the Big Stone Gap area. Her dad worked in the coal mines and I spent a lot of time there with her. I know this place well... the country accents, everybody shops at the Piggly Wiggly, and attends Clinch-Valley College after high school because it's the only college within 60 miles of home.
.
This movie failed in so many ways. The southern accents were HORRIBLE. (The cast of True Blood and Walking Dead nailed those accents -so not being from the south is not an excuse. They did not take time to try to learn southern dialect.

Also the film was very silly and missed the charm of the book. Felt like it was directed by a child.

Hollywood killed this one. Needed to be an independent film by someone who could have put his heart in it.

Accents aside (they are rarely authentic), my biggest issue with the movie is how almost all the characters are played as caricatures. They say things or do things that aren't very authentic and too many seem to be buffoons. There is a good enough core story here that they didn't need to go overboard with the silliness and slapstick.
