Between 0-10 what would you rate the new Zelda?

I haven't played it yet but would like to get some opinions.

8/10

The worst thing is breakable weapons. Nintendo should never include that again. What it means is that, say I get a unique weapon from a character, I can use it and lose it or save it and not have the fun of trying it out. Most weapons aren't too special outside of appearance but that doesn't change the point. If you're first thought when getting something is, "Wow, this looks nice, better not equip it", it's bad game design.

Swimming is irritating too. Humans don't drown that easy! But although I had a fair amount of issues with the game, the good aspects won me over. The sense of exploration feels fresh enough to keep me going back. You feel like you are Link exploring Hyrule. It's a massive world. Really dig the art style, character designs, and the personality it has.

I rate it 9/10
I agree with your problems with it, and there's so much more to fix about it.
I have a question for you though: how would you fix the breakable weapons thing?
Obviously they put that in so that you'd have an interest in picking up the weapons that the monsters drop, even the crappy ones.
I agree with you, it's annoying as hell and makes you want to not use the weapons you like, but I wouldn't know how to fix it myself.

My only solution would be that, once you find a weapon and put it in the compendium by taking a picture, you can buy it anew from a weapon shop (paying the correct amount of money of course-nothing crazy like diamonds though). At least you can get it again if you really want to.

Having the weapons in the shop once you've acquired them in the world is a smart solution. I can't really think of anything better.

Or how about just having the weapons be unbreakable? It's not exactly an easy game. Having unbreakable weapons wouldn't make it easy.

I think the weapon system was to prevent combat from becoming too mindless. It's an extremely large world that may seem barren, but there are actually tons of creatures to be fought. If you just picked up permanent weapons that got progressively stronger and stronger, the combat would become even more rote, boring and mindless than it already is. I know a lot of people hate it, but I think a lot of them just don't realize what it does, how it forces them to have at least a little skin in the game. Without it, more people would be saying "BotW is boring as hell."

P.S. - 9.5. I would have preferred more traditional dungeons instead of or in addition to the divine beasts, but everything else about the game was so great and satisfying that this barely puts a dent in it for me.

It is a good proof of concept but it suffers greatly on many areas like story, pacing, dungeons, bosses, breakable weapons, enemy variety, etc.

Immortals Fenyx Rising which came out this year and is heavily inspired by this is a better game.

> Immortals Fenyx Rising ... is a better game

On its best day, Immortals Fenyx Rising was barely mediocre. I played through it once and yeah it was fun enough. But I wouldn't give it a second go-around on a fucking bet. OTOH, I've played BotW top to bottom at least five times since it released. And I'm not talking about speed-run 'defeat the final boss ASAP' bullshit, I'm talking about taking my time and doing as much content as possible.
