Really. & all similar such flicks.

Makes me so homesick.

I never lived in Echo Park, but I worked there for years, was by far one of my favorite neighborhoods. I've lived in Brooklyn for the past twenty years--which is not bad by any means--but films like this remind me how much I miss LA.

Particularly the interior shots of Alex/Sophie's house. Tre LA.

As for the film itself, okay. Left wondering what she did that she could afford a house in that neighborhood & drive a Mercedes; how did that tiny gallery on Sunset (?) manage to drum up enough interest to draw a crowd for a show of Polaroids by a boy no one will have heard of.

Otherwise it's always nice to see a film set in LA. It seems as though NYC has become a default location for too many films (i.e. where location has to be a city, but not any particular city).

Any comparison from folks who've seen the '86 version with Tom Hulce & Susan Dey?

I agree. It's nice to actually see a film set in the REAL L.A., not some Hollywood glitzy version. The downside to Echo Park is that, while it's a beautiful location, it's not so safe, particularly at night.

I especially like Mamie Gummer and hope to see her in more movies.
