Saw it on Netflix

Interesting movie I must say but I have to agree with the comments i have seen posted here. The men make poor excuses like there is nobody in their town for them to date so the only logical explanation would be to find a bride overseas who fits their expectations of what they want. No so simple though as we see the "romance tour" was clearly staged at the beginning and was purely smoke and mirrors where women were hired to attend and fake an interest in these guys. The one man Bobby(video game guy) was extremely delusional in thinking he was going to actually find the women he was talking to online and whisk her away back to America. I mean, he even says they are engaged after he finally meets her for 5 minutes!? And the meeting only took place because the company needed to cover it's ass to prove they were not swindling this man out of his money (which they were). These guys were so desperate they could not just think rationally at all. The Foreign Affair website was a clear hoax in every way, $10 an email is ridiculous. Most people would know about 2 seconds into to seeing the page that all the pics of these models on the website were false and that these guys were corresponding with probably some random person on a computer. After watching this I really don't know what makes me more angry- the scam of a company that made piles of money catering to these delusional and naive guys or the men themselves who wasted their hard earned money hoping that they could buy a women overseas who would be nothing more than eye candy for them who they can show off om their arm. Just like the guy Eric did after he married one of the women he met- how awkward did they look walking around the supermarket together? it is clear that she is using the poor guy to get a green card and child support after having a child and divorcing him. This does not look like a marriage that will last.

I saw this recently on Netflix as well. Those companies are making bank on lonely, delusional men. I honestly felt sorry for most of the men except Michael (the dude from Oz) as he was just a creep. They all could have probably met lovely women in America, even traditional ones who like to cook and clean. But they all wanted fembots who were looked like models, would defer to them on everything, and would do nothing but housekeeping, cooking and sex. One even said they never ask her questions about herself, only what she can cook and if she does laundry. These guys don't want partners they want women who are WAY out of their league, but aren't rich or accomplished enough to get it here. And the women just seem to want better lives so they put up with it. At least long enough to get here.

I'm so tired of people on here saying a guy has to be rich or work-out a lot to get an attractive woman. Any man can get an attractive woman if he knows how to interact with women. The problem with these dudes is they have no clue how to talk with women, how to spark attraction, how to make them laugh, etc. They're not confident and are just plain dull and boring. That's the problem. Even if they were rich, they wouldn't get many women, b/c they still don't know how to interact with them.

reply

Uh-huh. Are you just saying these men need "game" or some version of it? I would agree that knowing how to have a conversation is helpful for either gender. But these guys don't seem to be interested in self improvement and really I don't care how much the heavy video gamer dude worked on his conversational skills, his likelihood of scoring an Angelina Jolie lookalike are slim at best. And I thought he seemed nice, just kind of delusional. And like I said, I don't think these guys want partners, they want trophies.

reply

I'm not talking about conversational skills. I said they need to know how to interact with them. Lot more to interacting than talking. You have to carry yourself a certain way; you need a quiet confidence, but it comes from the inside and not merely imitating it on the outside. The guys would be interested in self-improvement if they realized that's all they need to get the type of girl they want. But they buy into the lie that they have to be rich or great-looking, so they feel helpless. This is why that false premise irks me b/c it's not true and too many men are alone or settle for the kind of woman they don't want.

reply

Yes, because women are a uniform group of people who will react favorably if they are "interacted" with properly, and any man who does so will get the model-esque girl of his dreams. And what is the kind of woman they "don't" want? "Breathing" and "willing to have sex" seem to be just about the only qualifications for these guys.

That's the first thing I thought. It appeared as though they were actually being charged per e-mail. Probably to both receive and send one. Who in this day and age can be so gullible? Dating sites are just so oudated and also sex tourism which this had every resemblance of!

Jesus. Join Facebook for free then start playing some of the apps and adding random players from the fan groups if you are that desperate. I'm not desperate and I am not looking but my friends list is over 1,440 because I keep getting requests from the Monster Buster fans. Must have added about 300 of them - it's fab as I never run out of lives or coinage lol. I think another 100 "friends" were from Candy Crush haha. I do have like real friends as well 

These guys just need to think outside the box and put the time in. They want everything yesterday. Engaged after three seconds flat? Give me a break!

It also looked like they were charged for interpretation of each letter or email from foreign language to English (and I'm assuming the same for the foreign lady.) I'm sure there are cheap (or even free) programs that can do that.

As I recall the guy is charged $10 to send and $10 to receive an email with translation by the service as a quasi justification for the outrageous charge. Likely the the girl gets a cut to keep them interested in churning up a lot of email. If both parties were truly interested in one another they could bypass the system and email each other practically for free and use Google translate.

Haha, no offense, but that sounds like a terrible way to meet a partner (to me). I haaaaate those games and post lots of pics of my nieces and nephew (and am a very private person anyways), so I have all my social media set to private. I have, however, met and dated several people over the years that I met on (normal, American, free) dating sites. Mostly Ok Cupid, but I did meet someone quite nice on Plenty of Fish and we ended up dating for a few months before we parted as friends when he moved for school.

Anyhow, this whole "love tourism" or whatever is just bizarre to me. I don't begrudge anyone meeting someone in a foreign country and wanting to settle down with them, or appreciating a culture different from ours, but jeez. You cannot be a grown man and expect this fantasy. And so what if some of the women are looking for a greencard or a better life for their kids? They're basically being paid to be a wife! How are you supposed to create a life-long connection in a couple meetings where your third wheel is a translator?!

Lol none taken. Great dog on your profile picture by the way! I have an animal welfare group recently started on Facebook (lots of dog-lovers)!

I appreciate all of your opinions and mine is set to private too. I meant men though not ladies regarding the adding of people. I only add (for the odd game which is Monster Busters), older ladies from miles away. I never add men even from Deep Space Nine onto my list 
