What I got from it:
As a general rule, there aren't that many "50's style" women (mentioned by one of the men as what he is seeking) left in America. American women, while perhaps still wanting a family, tend to also want their own accomplishments and not to only be the cheering section for their spouse and children.
The Eastern European women, outnumbered the Eastern European men, had "50's style" ambitions - husband, home, children, and the Eastern European men drank more and more as they got older.
I have seen at least two of this type of relationship up close. Neither worked out in the long term. My take on these two relationships was that once these women became "Americanized", it was only a matter of time.
