I realize that filmmakers have to determine what to leave in and what to leave out—and it could be that she wasn’t interested in participating, or she was, and they decided that she didn’t really have anything useful to contribute. But I don’t think they even mentioned that he had an older sister.

There is no question he did not have a close relationship with his father; it's possible he didn't have a close relationship with his sister, either.

Sometimes when gay people come out to their families, those families cast them out. It happens very, very frequently. Perhaps his sister is one of these kinds of sisters.
