Does this film still holds up after the initial hype died down?

Now that the hype has died down and things have sort of settled in two years later and probably after seeing it multiple times. How would you rate the movie? Do you like it more or less, how has it aged in your opinion?

reply

There's barely any time passed, my opinion didn't change I still think it's great.

To see if it holds up well would require to wait 30 something years.

reply

I've seen it quite a few times now and I'm even more impressed with it now that I was initially.

reply

I was never aware of any hype. One day, the movie simply became available on Netflix, and that was that.

It's a crap movie but brainless enough to watch once.

A bright light can hollow the deepest of nothingness.

reply

It gets better every time I watch it.

It definitely still holds up. The story is original. There hasn't been anything quite like it. The imagery is uniquely creepy, not just generic run-of-the-mill horror imagery. The soundtrack is absolutely unforgettable.

But what really makes it timeless is that there are layers upon layers of subtext, symbolism, metaphorical depth. There are so many ways to interpret the film. Just when I think I have it figured out, I find out a whole new way to look at it.

Agreed! The music was fantastic and really helped ratch up the nightmarish atmosphere

"You work your side of the street, and I'll work mine"

It's like a throwback to 1970s horror too.

reply

It was an okay movie when it came out, and it's an okay movie now.

reply

For me it's still by far the best horror movie I've seen

reply

Same for me! The idea is very original and it is trully creepy..

reply

yeah, was and still is, just an ok movie... the pool scene was and still is, pretty sily
