McFarland, USA but awful

This movie was EXACTLY like McFarland, USA except it was totally phoned in. I could not believe how they threw in every single uplifting sports movie cliche, but didn't even try to apologize for it. I watched the movie, it was okay I guess, I was just astounded at how content everyone (the writer, the actors, the director) was with its mediocrity. Kind of cool story though (the real one).

They were both based on a true story, so how could this movie be exactly like McFarland, USA? Because they both involve latino students? Okay....

I think this one was more fun to watch.

What a stupid, inaccurate, and totally useless comment. That is the beauty of an open site like the IMDb, isn't it. Even idiots can make worthless comments and some will actually accept them as truth.

"Spare Parts" is a very nice and inspirational movie, well-made and also entertaining.

Well-made? A bunch of cliches glued together.

The two movies are very similar indeed. Apparently Hollywood is trying to convince us that all Hispanic teenagers in the Southwestern states have never seen the ocean:)

I loved Spare Parts. Very true to life. These kids are POOR. And that Hispanic teenagers haven't seen the ocean - guess what? many don't have transportation, time, etc. to go see the ocean. The teenagers in this movie are from Arizona, so of course it is less likely that they have seen the ocean. The only ways that this movie is like McFarland are that they about the lives of poor Hispanic teenagers, feel-good movies, based on true events, and have dedicated teachers. Otherwise, the one movie is about sports and the other about science. Both are wonderful movies.

I agree with you. Just too many similarities but McFarland had a far better screenplay.
