season 4 discussion for those seen eps 1 to 6.

I guess one disadvantage of Amazons awesome "here's the whole series - watch at your own pace" policy is that weekly discussion of latest events is out of the window ...

So i was about to flick through last ep of s3 to recap , when i noticed s3 has its own "recap of s2 video" - and so does the new season it turns out , presented by Kevin Smith no less! very helpful.

So we start S4 with this ring thing and 1300 new solar systems to explore!
Finally the belters can get out from under the boot of the UN and Mars ...
but no , apparently 1300 solar systems and god knows how many planets isnt enough to throw the Belters a bone.

The Belters have procured a barren rock to live on , so an extremely well armed team of geologists pop along to check out how its going ... and make sure they are .. er , ok ?
..and possibly steal all their shit and send them home.

Whats all this bullshit about "oh we dont want a gold rush scenario" people might hurt themselves. Who the hell do the UN lady think she is ?
they arnt her solar systems!

anyhoo so all that leads to the "tensions" on the barren rock culminating in Holden punching Captain Psycho and saying "Your not in charge anymore!"
Finally! i thought ...
execpt not much changed and and he was pretty much still in charge.

Then the shit really hits the fan!
The planet start fighting them back...
-earthquake
- shockwave
- Tsunami
so far so good - thats the easy bit and they decide to hide in a leaky hole in the ground.
- Water not subsiding much
- Then the planet decides to cripple their rides home by changing the laws of physics - no obvious plan springs to mind to combat that.
- to cap it all they start going rapidly blind
- and their hole is invested with alien leeches.

"They are in some deep shit" i thought.

Just watched episode 1 of season 4 and I can’t understand these refugees... spoilers.... why the hell would they want to go to an alien world... these refugees suck ass.

reply

No one would let them land - planets, moons, stations. They were desperate, so they went through the ring.

Also since season 3, they mostly stay in one area/location now. Whereas in the first season they would be all over the place. Is this because of the switch to amazon or for budget reasons?

I've noticed this for season 4 in particular. I personally loved season 4. I liked it more than the previous seasons. A large part of it is because of the smaller scope. You get more invested in the characters due to this smaller scope. The story is told more cleanly.

The politics of the new OPA union and the tribes and the friction with the old anarchist tradition of the belters was particularly well done.

The 4th book mostly takes place on that planet.
