Artificial gravity question

On my phone so bare with me. I understand most of it. My question is when the ship is doing it's deceleration burn.. are the interiors of these on a gyro?
It seems like there would be a little exposition on that. Is there anything I missed, or are we just ignoring that?

Like the ship headed to Venus for instance.

reply

What do you mean "on a gyro"?
Are you talking about a spinning section simulating gravity?
Apparently the physics of that is problematic because in order
to not feel the spinning and getting motion sick the scale of a
torus would have to be huge and spinning very fast.

( like the spin gravity of the Behemoth )

But, that
is in reality, I don't know what they do in The Expanse.

There was gravity in the Canterbury. Another way they can
generate gravity is to always be accelerating and then midway
turn around and decelerate, but accelerating at near a constant
g for gravity is pretty hard and makes for tough course corrections.

I think a better question is "why does artificial gravity generators/plating never fail in these space science fiction shows, yet is the single most used technological resource used on all these space science fiction shows?"

reply

Artificial gravity generators/plating never fails in The Expanse...because there ARE no artificial gravity generators/plating in The Expanse.

Gravity occurs during acceleration or deceleration, and when in free fall, everyone uses mag boots. They've shown that pretty extensively in the first two seasons, perhaps a bit less in Season 3, but it's all been shown.

So when everyone is walking around on the Rocinante, as if they're walking on earth, there is no artifical gravity? Sure there is. There has to be. The ship isn't always moving and the ship is most certainly not spinning.

reply

When they're walking in free fall, they're using mag boots. This has been shown several times. Plenty of shots of people's ankles with the red light showing the boots are activated.

reply

And the very noticeable"mag boot lock" sound effects

This show is doing sci-fi the hard way. There is no artifical gravity or faster then light travel. The engines are always accelerqating at 1 G except during the initial boost which is why you see them being gstrapped in getting pumped full of drugs during the initial phase of the flight to help their bodies adjust to the 20 something Gs they are experiencing at that point.

are the interiors of these on a gyro?

All I've ever seen on a gyro is tomato, onion, cucumber sauce and sometime feta cheese. Thems mighty fine eating!

reply

Was thinking the same ... do they just turn around the ship or?

reply

at the mid point of the travel the ship flips around and burns in the oposite direction (like in the video game astroids) so a positive G force is still maintained. You can see the ship flipping in some shots through out the show. The ships are designed like a tower. although they appear long. If your asking of the crew can fill the ship flipping over I would say yes they do which is why they are strapped down during the flip.
