Obviously they're based on the same book........so what's the point in creating two shows on the same thing, airing practically at the same time?

Ugh..... This has been explained so many times.

There was a French film called Les Revanants/They Came Back.

Then came the French series Les Revanants/The Returned based on the film.

Then a novel was released called The Returned by Jason Mott. Its not based on the French series even though its shockingly similar. The tv series Resurrection is based on this novel.

Then a US tv series The Returned was released... This is a remake of the French series.

Throw the 4400 in there somewhere too. A lot of shows with the same thin premise. Oddly none of them have managed to keep the intrigue compelling for more than a season.
