Thomas Haden Church is good in this
Terrence Howard is second billed, but the film doesn’t have any real pulse until Boyd Holbrook shows up. Pinky (Holbrook), a Purple Heart recipient, spends his days pawning off what he can, preserving a small part of his former life with a picture of the president. When Holbrook and Church share the screen, Cardboard Boxer picks up considerably, working as a slighter Midnight Cowboy. Holbrook proves one of the more complex characters and when he disappears the story never recovers. http://www.cutprintfilm.com/reviews/cardboard-boxer/
