shareActually, that was the one glaring goof in the movie. I'll assume Pinky would be rated 100% service connected disabled by the loss of two legs and PTS. His monthly benefits would be $2915.55/mo tax free, plus medical benefits including wheelchair, not counting the possible SS. Basically, just being a vet will not get you much, but a service connected disability comes with benefits - although the scale linear under 100%. Many homeless will claim disabled vet status to panhandle, but this is a scam - there are benefits available. When you're down and out, not much you won't do for money.
It's possible that outreach will improve Trump in the executive branch and the republicans in congress. Obama was so focused on the ADA that he let the VA become a political wasteland, using vets to bolster the ADA numbers - in effect hurting vets more than helping them. Millions wasted, but the republican congress is doing what they can to not make it a total wash.
