Was I the only child that couldn't stand "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood"?

I saw the show as a child, and Mr. Rogers gave me the creeps.

No, really, he seemed like the kind of adult who'd tell children that Santa is real, and that you should come and sit on his lap.

I grew up watching Captain Kangaroo (along with Skipper Chuck and Arthur & Company which were local Miami shows) when I was at the age kids watch these shows. I grew up in Key West and we only had ABC, NBC and CBS out of Miami until sometime around the mid to late 70s.

My kid brother used to watch the show. He loved it!

There seems to be a push by aging Boomers and Gen Xers to immortalize Mr Rogers lately. Even the movie itself plugs in the trailer that it's "a movie We Need Right Now" as if it were some sort of anecdote to living in the Trump era. The Truth is, American culture has been pretty vile and repugnant for centuries. Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood was part of my childhood but I soon forgot about it when I started to obsess over teen boy stuff like comic books, star wars, and girls.

I didn't like it. But I didn't like most of those "kids shows" as a kid.

I'd rather draw and wait for the monster movie to come on.

Rogers was after my time. I grew up watching "Captain Kangaroo" and local Los Angeles kid show hosts like Sheriff John, Engineer Bill, Skipper Frank, and Tom Hatten. They were all benign, cheerful, and kid-friendly, but, unlike Rogers, were traditional masculine role models (yes, that's a good thing). It's possible to be a nice guy without being wimpy.

I have a high IQ and was very bright as a child, since that's the same your whole life.

I disliked Rogers a lot because I thought he talked to us like we're idiots. I felt insulted even as a very small kid.

My brother and I would watch the show for laughs because we thought it so weird.

I am personally amazed that he wasn't some pervert and was actually a nice person. I still dislike him today though!

I always liked it when I was young. Didn't love it, be he seemed like a genuine nice guy to me. After watching this movie I'm going to introduce my kids (5 & 7) to the show and see what they think.
