I liked the movie

No it wasn't what we had grown up with and this is why it was powerful moving. The reporter assigned to interview Fred eventually learns who he is. Instead of writing a fluff piece on the show, he learns how and why the person who made the show touches others

This communicates the legacy to audience who are too young to (unfortunately) have grown up watching the show. Yes it pains me to have remembered throughout the movie that there are now people in this world who missed seeing his original shows.

He wasn't a hollier than thou type at all. He realized we are all imperfect--including him. We are human.
