in the beginning when nidorino battles gengar it uses poison sting??? are these trainers all amateurs?

The anime hasn't ever followed gameplay logic.. well the mainstream anime. I still haven't seen this.

They actually recreated the opening to the original games, which involved a Nidorino battling a Gengar and I'm pretty sure in the opening of the game it uses poison sting, but I'm not 100% positive. But I know that's what they were going for.
