I hated Ghostsbusters and Star Wars unlike in HIMYM and A to Z

The funniest thing happened. I was watching A to Z ‘s latest ep and then a HIMYM ep where they mention GhostBusters ( I guess Robin quotes it and I think Ted and Marshal like it or something) and also on another HIMYM they mention how Ted loves Star Wars.
And my friends and I started making fun of those movies. What kind of sad idiot still likes Ghostsbusters as an adult? And what’s the deal w/ tv show runners passion for that Star Wars movie. (quoting Stella : what’s up w/ the Bear ?)
It’s like , do these TV people really like dumb movies or they are just making fun of people who likes them?

I don't think that it's so much about them liking those movies as an adult as much as it's about the nostalgic feeling that those movies had in people and the cult following that they still have today. For a lot of TV writers, directors and producers those were major blockbuster movies when they were young or that their parents introduced them to, so they have had a significant impact in the show business for them to look up to them.

I'm not a fan of either those movies, and I even dislike most of the Star Wars franchise, but I still find some of the references funny. For better or worst they are part of history.

As for HIMYM, it kind of milked Star Wars to the extreme when it came to Ted, Marshall, and Barney liking the movies. F-word, they even had Ted (almost) break up with Stella because she didn't like it and had Barney develop a theory around Star Wars when it came to Nora's, and a girl's, age. I bet that the creators would even had an episode recreating the Star Wars movies if they were on FOX instead of CBS. Something like Family Guy did.

Ghost Busters, on the other hand, was at most referenced in three episodes and was mostly a trivia/general knowledge thing.

As for A to Z, they showed the Ghost Buster movie has being a part of Andrew and Stu's friendship. They bonded over it and had a tradition revolving around the movie. That was it.

Cheers,

What the hell kind of movies do you like?!

Seriously. Considering that both of those movie franchises have made a ton of money over the past 30 years, why would it be odd to try and capture some viewers that feel the same? The only misstep may be that the audience interested in this type of show is younger then those of us that can appreciate the reference. It honestly is why i tuned in at at all to A to Z and was one of the things i loved about HIMYM, but i am probably just over the age of the demographic that this show needed to catch on.
