Relationship time line changes

Has anyone else noticed each episode the time length they say in the opening credits changes

reply

Holy crap! I had to check my "DVR" and sure enough you're right.

"Andrew and Zelda will date for..."
"8 months, 3 weeks, 5 days, and 1 hour..."
"8 months, 2 weeks, 6 days, and 1 hour..."
"8 months, 1 week, 1 day, and 1 hour..."
"This television program is the comprehensive account of their relationship from A to Z."

Kinda just lost all respect for this show... (what little I had)... damn it.

reply

If that's the case, it's probably a count down.

reply

Yep! You were right with the countdown theory.

Tonight was "8 months, 2 days, 1 hour."

The only note I have: "will continue to date" might be better than "will date." Just nitpicking, though.

Respect restored!

Yeah she is narrating from the time in place they are during the episode. With each passing day, they aren't always going to be 8 months, 3 weeks, 5 days, and 1 hour away from their break-up, engagement, etc...

reply

Yeah that intro-line should be changed from 'will date' to 'will date another' or 'will keep dating' or something. The 'will date' implies time from start to end, at least for me it does.

reply

That's what I thought too. I honestly didn't even realize that the time changed and thought that was just how long they dated until something happened that changed them from dating to something else, like they got engaged.

I do like the countdown idea though.

Go with your heart, buddy. Our brains only screw things up...

Also, it would make more sense if the intervals differed by 7 days, as though the show were supposed to air in real time. Otherwise, who the heck cares about that extra hour? Have all episodes began at the same time of day? Or is it as of the time that the narrator mentions it? Is that always the same time of day?

reply

Can add 8 months, 2 days, and 1 hour to that list now.

Is odd how they choose to omit 1-2 words that would change the meaning of that sentence, if you happen to be a first time watcher on
The episode where they say Andrew and Zelda..., for 1 day, and 1 hour and let's say he proposes, that would be odd.

Did you see Dharma&Greg? They met, dated and got married in the first episode (and I believe she also met his parents but it's so long ago, it could have also been the 2nd episode)

reply

I didn't notice but this made me think:

I've been assuming the end would be them breaking up but what if it is them getting engaged? Are you really dating anymore if you are engaged to marry?

reply

They could move in together after 8 months. Then the narration could be that they'll live together, be engaged, etc.

Are you really dating anymore if you live together? My cousin recently got married to the guy she's been with for 18 years and while she stayed at his apartment a lot over the years after he moved into it they didn't really live together until he inherited his uncle's home a few years ago. They'd been together so long it's hard to day when they stopped "dating" and were just together.

I didn't DVR any episodes, but for some reason I thought the first couple said they would date for 8 years so and so months etc. Then last week when they said 8 months I thought, I bet this show is getting cancelled and they are just going to condense it into one season. Well, I guess it was never years, but looks like it is getting cancelled and they will just show 13 episodes. It's weird to me when a show ends with no real ending but I guess after just 13 episodes, nobody really cares. I just wonder if we will ever know if they get married, break up, she dies a la How I met Your Mother or what???
