How did they both use the same elevator in their work?

Their buildings aren't joined together, his is on the left side, hers is on the right, their work rooms face each other, yet they both seem to use the same front door and also meet each other in the elevator, how is this possible. How did Stephie and Stu both get in the same one when they were both upset about their dates, they work on the opposite side to each other, if you went out of their rooms you couldn't get in the same lift or use the same stairs, you might use the same front door but that's about it.
