Why again Pakistan??

why do they always show Pakistan's negative things, I live in Pakistan, and we are more happy than Americans, everything is cheep here, we have average of 2 servants in every house, rules are linear here, no one sues here, we have jobs and families live together in the same house, and our Parents lives with us till they expires.

reply

OK, now list the positives. LOL

I wonder how happy all those "servants" are?

Anyhow you could always just watch all the great TV shows and movies produced in Pakistan, if it bothers you.

reply

Basically cheap everything,,books, college (no student loans), gaming CDs, DVDs,movie tickets, transport, clothing, food etc

No traffic tickets, no credit history *beep* suing, etc

Most important :More human interaction compared to American zombies.

reply

Not sure how important it is for people not to get traffic tickets while human rights (and especially those of women!!) are completely disregarded and trampled upon....People wonder why they chose Pakistan for the setting of shows like this - well maybe because it is the No. 1 rogue country in the world right now??

reply

Women have got more rights in Pakistan then many of the first world countries. You've only based your opinion on watching news channels that pick and choose what they want to show.
When was the last time US had a woman as a head of state? Well never. Guess what Pakistan had a woman PM not once but twice.

reply

Does it really count if you then proceed to shoot her in the head in public?

reply

oh please! benazir bhutto became pm because she came from the powerful bhutto family. It had nothing to do with women's equality.

reply

Yeah people in US get tickets but still drink and drive causing so many deaths.

Alcohol ban in Pak = less no of accidents.

reply

i have a few pakistani friends in ireland and according to them, womens rights stink there. you still have to pay someone to marry your daughter, sex is controlled through tradition. women are still second class citizens there, what happens is a woman is abused over there? shunned by her society, in most cases.
my friends are scared to go home because they have been too "westernized"

ban on alcohol? man, i can't even begin to express how sad that is.

reply

i have a few pakistani friends

Lying.

womens rights stink there

Pakistan has a British legal system with 90% British laws.

Lie much?

you still have to pay someone to marry your daughter

Maybe if you are a paindoo (hillbilly).

women are still second class citizens there

Women can be Prime Ministers and can fly fighter jets, besides have control over their own money. That is the basis of a modern democracy.

sex is controlled through tradition

Like I said, they don't take their pants off in the middle of the street. You may call that "tradition".

what happens is a woman is abused over there

Hire a lawyer and hope for the best.

my friends

*beep* PLEASE! You ain't got no paki friends.

ban on alcohol?

No ban for foreigners and non-muslims.

reply

seriously, if you doubt someone can make a pakistani friend in another country you are mad, we all go through working in shops and almost every shop has pakistani people working in it over here.

British law does not equal the religious law society (the people) expect everyone else to follow, for example blood money still happens in pakistan.

so are you saying arranged marriages are not popular in pakistan? because my "friend" just had one and has to move back to pakistan to be with her because the wife's family doesn't want her in western civilization.

reply

if you doubt someone can make a pakistani friend in another country

I doubt YOU can make a Pakistani friend. When making fun of someone else's country, it is common to start with "I have these --- friends".

I have British and Irish "friends" too and they tell me...... bla bla bla

or example blood money still happens in pakistan.

Some aspects of Islamic Law are tacked on. Otherwise it is predominantly British Law. "Innocent until proven guilty".

so are you saying arranged marriages are not popular in pakistan?

They are going out of fashion. Either way, there is no such rule where one HAS TO have an arranged marriage.

because my "friend" just had one

Your "friend" is most likely a "paindoo" (Pakistani hillbilly). Such people bring their old ways from the villages they pooped in, to the cities. It takes a while for them to lose their old ways, but it does eventually happen.

reply

Whatever he has said is highly exaggerated. These things happen very, I mean very rarely these days.

reply

You've only based your opinion on watching news channels that pick and choose what they want to show.

He's right you know. You're indoctrinated to believe what the media tells you and you will defend those beliefs as if you've witnessed all this evil you believe is going on first hand. It's in Americas interest to make Americans hate countries that they have gone, or may go, to war with. If America ever decided to go to war with Canada, or Sweden, or some other fairly neutral/non-warlike country, don't think for a second that the media wouldn't be filled with propaganda talking about how evil those countries are and why everyone should hate them.

I've never been to Pakistan, I'm sure there are some bad things that go on there, but there's plenty of bad things that go on America as well.

Try to research, think for yourself. With enough effort you might be able to reverse the brainwashing you've suffered and may finally see the world with clarity for the first time. Your government doesn't have your best interests at heart, they have an agenda and it requires the masses to believe whatever they want them to believe.

reply

Good post,tell the truth.

reply

Cheap DVDs and no traffic tickets ? Wow. These are solid arguments. Anyway, to paraphrase Cameron Crowe, you had me at DVDs.

Women have got more rights in Pakistan then many of the first world countries.

That's my favorite part of your posts. More rights. Right. What about the hundreds (at least) of acid attacks and "honor" killings each year ? Yes, you had Benazir Bhutto... and she got shot. That's an important detail. The most important women's right activist, Sabeen Mehmud, got the same treatment a few months ago. Did you read the recent report by International Crisis Group ? Last year, the World Economic Forum ranked Pakistan as the second worst country in the world in terms of gender equality. You're right, feminism is huge in Pakistan. Just like in any other muslim country, as a matter of fact (it reminds me of an Egyptian who once told me Islam was a feminist religion... that dude was a barrel of laughs). Much more than diamonds, Sharia is a girl's best friend. But I guess I'm influenced by western propaganda.

Oh, by the way, in your dream country, 70% of the marriage are consanguineous. At least, you have a higher birth rate than your "American zombies". A High birth rate is all a country needs. See Africa.

- Booker, are you afraid of God ?
- No. But I'm afraid of you.

[deleted]

Bla bla bla ... you say all this like you've lived there yourself. I went to medical school there and have ZERO debt compared to American med students. I'm more than happy and more than grateful that I belong to Pakistan. It has given me everything in life, everything I needed and its time for me to pay back.

reply

The pertinence of your arguments is overwhelming.

reply

You can't compete. Don't bother then.

reply

I notice a complete lack of response to his statement that a large part of the country is banging its own cousins.

reply

In the U.S. it's LEGAL to marry your cousin in some states.

Never Drumpf! Never Hillary!

You people better discuss entertainment, IMDB is not the ideal place to discuss geopolitics.
Both countries have different cultures you condescending pricks.
Americans want to impose what they believe on other people.
Nobody needs American society in Pakistan because they're doing just fine without it.
Pakistanis have their own family structure they don't need import values.
Pakistan does not need comedians and Kardashians to tell people how to live their lives.

Mr. Treehorn treats objects like women, man.

reply

you are likely lying or young and ignorant with rich parents. these are lies.

reply

I get you. I'm in America but born to a Pakistani father and lived there for a couple years. It is not in my mind what is depicted here but at the same time I haven't been over there since I was 8. My brother went for 3 months to visit our father in Karachi and he said it was bad but my brother is a pathological liar.

And in regards to the other poster.... The servants that we had got paid. They weren't "slaves" and we're not treated with disrespect. It's a job and a means to support your family. And usually a place to stay and sleep as well depending on the circumstance.

reply

I can only assume that the guy with two servants, who can afford to pay them, is happier than the servants themselves. It speaks to a "haves/have nots" society. I wonder how many people emigrate TO Pakistan vs. out of Pakistan? I am sure it is a real paradise, as long as you are the one with the servants!

reply

Slavery can in many forms. Do these servants have a chance to move up in life? Guess the term servant is a little outdated.

reply

I assume they picked Pakistan for two reasons.

1. It's a nuclear state.
2. There is still a Tailban and Al Quaida presence in some parts

It may not be as likely as the show will depict, but of all states with nuclear weapons, Pakistan may be one of the most susceptible to an extremist coup.

I would just chalk it up to differences in perception. Your positives may not seem as great to us, whereas I'm sure ours are seen in a negative view to you. Along with the media narratives of the state being hostile.

reply

I'm afraid that this is the way the Western World is. Always trying to find a new enemy and implying that nobody is as great as the Western World.
Please understand that the Western (and most of the rest) of the World is controlled by a vast minority of very powerful/ridiculously wealthy men. They control the media and what we know/think/hear/see. They are continually trying to create new enemies between each and every one of us. They deny that we are the same and instead insist that nobody is as evolved and civilized as we (the West) are.

Their main tool for achieving this is through the use of media. **You could look at every Hollywood movie/TV series filmed in the last decade and you will not see one movie actually depicting the Middle East as decent/realistic, hence the amount of negativity you have received via your comment. We only know what we are taught and, apparently, most of what we are taught is made of lies.

Most of the negativity you are experiencing is fueled by this propaganda.
Just look at America and its severe racism. It is a divide and conquer tactic.

It may sound like a "conspiracy theory" but it is far more fact than theory.

The West wants their citizens to think that they/we have the best lives and that the rest of the World (especially the Middle East) are below us. They want the entire Western World to believe that the Middle East is one great big woman-beating, terror-causing, weapons-of-mass-destruction-creating religious extremist.

I cannot apologise for these scumbag rulers but at least I can try and persuade you that we do not all think like that. Many of us know the truth.

Your sincerely,
Rob the Random Briton.

** If you believe my comment to be *beep* then please try to add a counter argument to the sentence above that is labelled with "**"

How are gay people treated? I'm just curious to hear from someone there in regards to this.

reply

Isn't this Pakistan the country where Gays are stoned to death, and a 16 year-old boy who wrote a love letter to his female crush was also stoned to death? The country where Osama Bin Laden hid in safety for five years? The country that exports hundreds of thousands of ISIS fighters? The country that cannot be trusted to simply apprehend the Radical Islamic militants who are committing terror? The country that spawned the hotel terror attack in India? The country that allows Dr. Abdul Khan (the thief of stolen nuclear plans who sold them to enemies of western countries) to walk about freely without any punishment? The country that arrested Dr. Shakil Afridi who bravely revealed that 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden was hiding protected in Pakistant, and then murdered his lawyer? The country that tried to assassinate a little girl, Malala Yousafzai, who wanted other girls to simply attend school and learn to read?

Uh, yeah. I think it is OK that Pakistan is the country in which this comedy series takes place.

reply

Haha, it's funny, because most of the things you list are either not true, or they're about other countries than Pakistan.
Amazing! But I'm not sure everyone gets the joke, you overestimate peoples knowledge of the differences between the middle eastern/west asian countries.

reply

Feel free to flyspeck my previous post, tell me EXACTLY what is "not true". Don't just come on here and deny it, like Pakistan denied harboring A.Q. Khan or OBL, or misusing intelligence to help Al Quaeda and Radical Islamists.

In any event, let's all not pretend that Pakistan is some civilized country that is an enlightened and tolerant place where rights and property are respected, and that this series could just as well take place in Greenland or Peru or New Foundland or Lichtenstein.

reply

Haha, it's funny, because most of the things you list are either not true, or they're about other countries than Pakistan.

Ignore him. Jayceezy is either lying to get a rise out of you or he really is an ignoramus.

Either way, not worth the attention he wants.

reply

Nah. I speak the truth! Here is a news story about a Pakistani woman sentenced to death for drinking water from a cup. So, this is the Pakistan you are all so proud of! As for the other stories mentioned above, a simple internet search will turn up lots of detail and coverage. I can see why if you are a Pakastani who escaped that overpopulated and corrupt country, and now have a comfortable life in a western country that respects laws, persons and property, that it might seem unbelievable a woman could be killed by the government for a sip of water, or a teenage boy stoned to death for writing a love letter, or gays executed for being gay, or wives beaten as property, etc. Anyway, enjoy! http://nypost.com/2013/08/25/sentenced-to-death-for-a-sip-of-water/

reply

as opposed to the country where Eric Rudolph hid in safety for 5+ years? The country that exports $10 billion in weaponry annually? The country who cannot be trusted to apprehend the Aryan Nations and KKK groups? The country that has fought countless illegal wars and placed countless tyrants in power around the world? The country that knowingly and willingly harbored Nazi war criminals? The country that allows Rumsfeld and Cheney to walk about freely without punishment? The country that arrested Chelsea Manning (and wants to arrest Ed Snowden) who bravely leaked evidence of torture and abuse by armed forces and intelligence personnel?

Um, yeah. I guess America would have worked just as well

reply

Here's the difference, for starters. Eric Rudolph was a fugitive, reviled by everyone in the United States, and found dumpster-diving behind KFC by a patrolman. OBL was hiding in plain sight in a compound with booze, recreational drugs, pr0n, and women for actual secksual defilement!(!?!?) protected by bodyguards and located blocks from the Pakistani military base. See the dif? Won't even dignify the rest of your sorry attempt to make a comparison, the USA is fighting terrorism and for freedom all over the world expending blood and treasure. The rest of the world is sitting on their hands, waiting for 'big brother USA' to fix it all. In the meantime, the entire Middle East and Africa and now parts of Europe are being overrun by those who have renounced the enlightenment of the past 400 years.

Keep on being afraid of the NSA, drones, police, Guantanamo, and the US military, while borders are disrespected and violent criminals of all kinds just pour into western nations. Notice that the 'migration' is in one direction? Hmm.

reply

Okay I guess I Ferdinand Marcos would have been a better example?

USA is fighting the consequences of it's own foreign policy (read terrorism), and for the freedom of its Neoliberal machine. The rest of the world isn't just "sitting on their hands" as you put it; they know that military force almost never works at stopping violent extremist groups, and are working at more comprehensive solutions. Refusing to beat a dead horse with failed foreign policy is not the same as "sitting on their hands".

Meanwhile homegrown extremist groups continue to perpetrate far more violence in the West than Islamists and Illegal immigrants put together!

Attributed deaths:
US Military: ~300,000+/year (average, 1945-2014) drones alone have killed >500/year since 2010
Islamic terrorism: ~1,200/year (global average, 1980-2015); higher since US invasion and resulting power vacuum tbf
American Police: ~1,000 deaths per year (according to Killed By Police) in the USA

In the USA (2002-2014)
Non-Islamic political violence and mass shootings: ~20/year
Islamic terrorism: ~2.5/year

So either you sympathize with the imperialists, these homegrown terrorist groups, or so you just watch too much Fox News?

The point is this show could be set anywhere. Setting it in Pakistan just feeds off Western fears of Islamist terrorism. While not unfounded, this fear is grossly exaggerated and misplaced.

reply

Yeah, make sure you start that statistic at 2002, clown.
