As penetrating as an IMAX nature film.

For a 105min movie, there's remarkably little information here.

It's basically a propaganda survey course for people unfamiliar with video games. Why, you might ask, would those people be watching this movie? It sort of comes off like a tourist video you'd see if you visited a really savvy corporate headquarters.

It constantly tells, and doesn't show. They talk about the art of games, but they barely highlight any game music, don't show any concept art, don't show texture artists painting on Cintique tablets, don't talk about AI design. They talk about originality, but don't delve into the myriad fascinating stories surrounding game development, and the astonishingly clever things that have been done in the name of necessity, they just mention that development is difficult. They play a lot of video game footage, but don't try to illustrate what immersion in a world is like.

"Look, Conan O'Brian and Jimmy Fallon are talking about video games. They must be mainstream." Anyone who cares who Conan O'Brian and Jimmy Fallon are, already knows that.

In short, it's just not a very well made film. It's too broad, they needed to narrow the focus down to a few carefully chosen stories.

I agree. I was excited to see this subject tackled, but it just felt flat all the way through. Anyone who wants a far more interesting take on the subject would do well to check out Indie Game: The Movie.

I found it very disappointing and completely lacking in depth. There are films and TV series out there that go into far more depth than this one, it really failed in so many ways which was a great shame: I would call it amateur but that would suggest it was a labour of love.

So, this is for video games what "Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony" and "A Brony Tale" to Bronies. Circlejerk crap with no intruiging substance. I adore MLPFiM and it is one of the scant few things I follow. I am jaded gamer who currently doesnt play modern games... or really video games in general.

I've seen none of these documentaries... but you can kinda tell just by looking at their trailers. The King if Kong:A Fistful of Quarters is how to do a human interest documentary with popular culture.

It's not a very deep or entertaining movie, basically it fails to either be a hardcore documentary about video games or a lighthearted look at gaming culture. Anyone who's already a gamer won't really come away with anything new here. I agree with the previous comment that King of Kong is a way better video game film/documentary

Agreed, very light and the tone was wrong. Seemed like a commercial, no substance and the narrator's voice was hard to listen to.

It lacked focus, it lacked depth. They interviewed a bunch of nobodies who had nothing of interest to relate; insights from video game designers, movie directors/critics, art historians, etc would've been much more interesting. Literally, they have a bunch of people talking who don't seem to have ANY kind of expertise on the subject.

I liked it till it brought up the game violence/gun control segment. Very out of place and shallow coverage. Alison Haislip comments were just plain retarded.
