No surprises at all. None. No twist or anything.

"The Wrath" is your average film about a man who is an ex black ops killer who seeks wrath on the murderers of his wife. Absolutely no surprises whatsoever, even when you may expect a twist of sorts that usually accompany plots like this, there is none. It is a straight up good guys taking out the bad guys until they reach the top. John Travolta is the lead and Christopher Meloni is his friend and former black ops member as well, and they team up to kill every single bad guy who had anything to do with the murder of his wife played by Rebecca De Mornay. Amanda Schull is their daughter in this vehicle. The police seem to be out eating donuts during the loud gun play in the action scenes. If you are just looking for a filler to take your mind off of things then this may be passable, or if you are a die hard Travolta fan, but perhaps the rest would want to skip this. No more than ** out of 4 stars and I am sure I am being too kind with it.

twists in movies seem to have gone out of fashion

the 'twist' was that the governor ordered the kill on his wife. admittedly, i guessed that from the very beginning.

I agree with your basic premise, although the hero avenger seldom has to work his way all the way up to the governor. Unless it's a high-tech/political conspiracy/Will Smith movie and then it's ALWAYS necessary to take out the governor.

It's so silly because I'm sort of a pretentious type, movie-wise, with the indies and the subtitles and so forth, but I loooove stories where the Everyman breaks out the secret stash of passports and the briefcase with the prototype firearm nestled in foam.

Guilty pleasure.

Not all action films need twists or surprises. Sometimes action is enough. And this one delivers.

not every movie needs to have some big twist reveal in the third act. in fact 10-15 yrs ago it was becoming so common that it lost its effect. i quite enjoy a straight forward thriller presented in linear fashion now due to the overuse of twists and flashbacks etc

this certainly wasnt oscar worthy but it kept me entertained.

So what? If they had put in a twist twits would be bitching about just another movie with a lame twist or how lame was the twist or I saw the twist coming a mile away. Twists, especially lame b.s. twists that don't work, are the territory of M. Night Shlamadingdong. Man on Fire had no twist - it was just Denzel killing every single person that had anything to do with the kidnapping until he got to the top dog. And he didn't even get the top dog in the release cut. I Am Wrath was J.T. doing the same - except he got the top dog.
