Who was the hottest Jesus?

Jim Caviezel? Diogo Morgado? Willem Dafoe? Ted Neeley? Who's your pick for the hottest Jesus Christ?

and Victor Garber (Godspell, 1973).

Maybe Jim Caviezel, even though his Jesus was bloodied for two hours. Diogo Morgado looks nice, though.

Hottest? Probably Diogo.
Caviezel was the best Jesus, though....

I know all of this is just opinion, but I thought Robert Powell was the best Jesus, ever.

I agree 100%!!! Robert Powell was the best, most powerful portrayal of Jesus I've ever seen.

Totally agree about Robert Powell. He came off little too ethereal but definitely gave the best, most powerful portrayal of Jesus.

reply

Haha, are we arguing most powerful performance or good looks? :)

reply

LOL. I guess both?

How about Robert Powell?

My vote is for Diogo. He's definitely good-looking, plus I like his portrayal of Jesus - loving and compassionate.

I find both Jim Caviezel and Diogo Morgado extremely attractive but in their own ways. I think Diogo Morgado is more "pretty" and Jim Caziezel is more handsome.

That said, Jim Caviezel didn't portray as much warmth as Jesus in Passion but Diogo Morgado did. They emphasized his kindness and gentleness and that drew me more to that Jesus.

Agreed. I find Jim Caviezel to be more handsome than Diogo Morgado.

Caviezel's Jesus was depicting a tortured and suffering Savior, while Morgado was emphasizing the more conventional interpretation of Jesus held by evangelicals. Caviezel didn't need "warmth" because he was being tormented and being tortured to the point of death. And Mel Gibson perfectly depicted it with unforgettable imagery, which is why I prefer The Passion of the Christ to Son of God, because the former was made like a real movie and the latter was just a forgettable (but still pretty watchable) recut of The BIble.

I think Mel Gibson was too heavy handed. There is no way a person would be able to stand that kind of torture like the Jesus in Passion of the Christ did. He would have died during the scrounging. Also, I would think Jesus was a frail man to begin with. He was known to fast often in addition to the 40 days and nights He fasted.

It is my belief that Jesus won people over not because of His "charisma" or "toughness". I believe He won people over because of His compassion and love for mankind. Diogo's portrayal was able to show that.

I agree with that. Although in fairness to Caviezel's Jesus, we weren't given the opportunity to see that side prior to his arrest and persecution. I just appreciated seeing that side to Jesus in Son of God. Diogo Morgado was perfectly cast because he projected that warmth and kindness perfectly. You could see it in his eyes.

Agree with your points too. I do think Caviezel is a good actor. And you are right too that we weren't give the opportunity to see him before his arrest and persecution. There were some flashback scenes and they were nice to see, but not enough to see the compassionate side of Jesus - I just mostly felt he was too tough and too aloof. Maybe, because Diogo's Jesus smiled quite a bit in the film, but that really made him seemed very sweet, personable, kind. The kind of Jesus I imagine Him to be.

reply

I guess we all see it a little differently. I think the one or two scenes Caviezel did as Jesus with his apostles blows anything Morgado did out of the water in terms of love and compassion. I'm not saying Morgado was bad, but he's not even in the same league.

To each their own. This is why we have multiple versions of this....

"Don't conform, be like us...."

reply

Don't get me wrong, I appreciated both versions. I just felt myself becoming more attached to Diogo Morgado's Jesus.

I wouldn't mind seeing more big films made about Old Testament stories. I know Noah is coming out but from what I've heard it's not telling the story from a very Christian standpoint.

Ted Neeley. I was 10 years old and going to marry him. When he toured here for the 25th anniv. (of course I was 35 by then) I took him George's cookies and told him of my mission 25 years ago. He apologized for not waiting another 10 years before marrying his wife. :)

This is a funny question to ask honestly, but I think Jim Caviezel, followed by Diogo Morgado.

Jared Leto ;)
