Without James Corden 10/10

Terrific performances from Judi Dench & Dustin Hoffman ! But the inclusion of James Corden as the Narrator completely ruined it for me.I found him to be extremely irritating every time he appeared ! A voice over narrative would have been sufficient from someone like Morgan Freeman !

reply

Yeah i tend to agree, he actually wasn't very annoying in this, but yes, it still would have benefited without his presence, they should have had a better narrator.

reply

100% agree. Lovely performances from the 3 leads (and the tortoises), but Corden was dreadful...and I'm a big fan of his. Should have just been voice - and not from someone who was trying to steal the show!

reply

Good performances but I hated how the original story was changed. Had it lasted 30mins and stuck to the original it would've been 10 times better.

reply

I think the the changed ending works better or else it would show a relationship based on a fraud. Corden was ok here, I rather liked his narration.

Its that man again!!

reply

I agree he was not bad in this

reply

I liked his narration and all the bits that went with it (the bus, etc.), although agree a voiceover narration would have been fine and not taken the viewer out of the story. Someone mentioned Morgan freeman – NO! The man's fabulous, yes, but very American and Esio Trot is very much a British story, so an American narrator would be very much out of place. James Corden was just fine, IMHO. :)

reply

Is Dustin Hoffman not American?

reply

James Corden seems to incite very polarized opinions. Never minded him myself, nor here.

reply

I have no idea who this chap is, but I tend to agree he had a predominant presence that was disturbing as not being captivating or intriguing at all.
For such a part I would imagine a more poignant actor or character would have been better by contrast to the levity of the story.
He was OK anyway just following the script, I imagine. Not fun for me.

reply

I'm watching it now and I couldn't agree more - Corden's performance is quite, quite terrible. What's really annoying is that the story would work perfectly well without him!

reply

Here, here and Morgan Freeman as the narrator without any appearance.

reply

I think he played the part well enough. But a voiceover would have been more suitable.

reply

"extremely irritating" - sums him up completely!
