Definitely reminds me of American Beauty except not as dark.
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.
Totally, at least the first episode reminded me of American Beauty a lot. Then.. well, it became a bit corny and as you said, not as dark.
Some plotlines felt forced and irrelevant, like, anything related to the daughter and the "happy app" crap.
Still, good show.
