Do we ever learn why she left Stan (Gere)?
Her echoing comments in the scene where she and Stan are trying to rescue Michael from Paul just served to exacerbate Paul’s fragile emotions.
In dealing with mentally ill people it’s really, really key to help calm their mood before doing anything else. The Barbara character did the opposite in that scene.
