It feels like they had two very different directors

This movie starts out so nicely and has some very sweet moment and characters. And then it's like a completely different director comes in, or writer, starting with him deciding to follow Method Man. The next 30 minutes or so is a steaming pile of crap as the character makes one stupid decision after another including, but not limited to: putting his own fingerprints on a bunch of guns that have been used for crimes and leaving a thug in a room with those guns for a couple of hours. Why? Because he's a freaking moron in those scenes. And then it's like the good director clocks back in and ties things up at the end.

And I don't get it. What production company allows this kind of thing to go on with its movies? Isn't there one intelligent person involved with the movie that could fix this and say "Hey, let's stick with the same tone as the opening of the movie. The character can have some fun, make a little money, and get the girl."

That's exactly what I was thinking. I felt like the movie started off very great and had a very unique and genuine tone, all the sudden it transforms into a late 90's Comedy Central flick.
