What's up with that smug faced guy they hired? I haven't heard an accent worse. Was it supposed to be Italian or something? Douglas is not Italian. Don't they think it's better to drop bad accent altogether than continue with crap like this?

Also he looked a lot younger, shorter and acted completely different than what real Kirk Douglas was.

I thought he was good. Then again, I don't really know how the real Kirk Douglas talked.

What??? That is Kirk Douglas in an acting role.

Do you actually think his off-screen personality and appearance are the same as his onscreen personality and appearance?

I think Kirk Douglas usually looked smug. THe actor's likeness was on the same par as John Wayne, and Edward G. All fine for the purpose of the story telling.

IMO He took nothing away from a great film about a horrendous time.

I liked him. I thought he sounded and looked enough like Douglas to keep me "in" the story.

I liked this Kirk (although he was shorter than the real Kirk) and Otto Preminger. I never believed John Wayne.

His acting was a bit off but at some point I wondered if he was a Douglas. He didn't look like Kirk but there was something.
John Wayne and Edward g. Robinson didn't look the part at all

I thought Dean O'Gorman did a very good job of impersonating Kirk Douglas, I definitely got the vibe during his first scene and right through to his last that this was Kirk Douglas. Same goes for Helen Mirren as Hedda Hopper.

David James Elliott's John Wayne got a lot of flak for being off-center but I think he did an admirable job. He wasn't as good as the others and he doesn't really look like John Wayne, but he had the swagger and the voice down pretty well. I think he gets a bit of a bum wrap on that, he was totally serviceable and I think if he played it up more or wore make-up it would have come off as comical. Under playing it was the right way to go.
