Yes Wu Jing died in the first part. Part 2 is just a standalone sequel and not a prequel. Simon Yam and Wu Jing play new characters.

he's back as a zombie.. just kidding, SPL2 is a completely different story.

OP is amateur to have to ask this question. This is commonly done in martial arts/action and thriller movies.
Mad Dog was killed in Raid 1, played by the amazing Yayan Ruhian, yet returned as Prakoso in the Raid 2.

At least they made it a point to give him a different appearance. It's not completely weird for the viewer to think of Prakaso as a different character than Mad Dog, who just happened to have a similar look to him. By that logic Wu Jing did also have regular hair in SPL2 as opposed to the white hair in 1, but still this movie had no business being a sequel, at least not in this era of moviemaking (martial arts movie tropes notwithstanding).

I found it amusing that Wu Jing plays the opposite side this time around.

He is the cop and he ends up fighting a henchmen who uses knives.

In that fight, Wu Jin uses a police nightstick against the knife guy.

Wu Jin then continues onward to the last area of the movie.

The same song with the same choir plays before this scene.

In SPL1:

Donnie Yen is a cop who fights Wu Jing, the top henchmen who uses knives.

Yen uses a police baton against Wu Jing's knife.

Yen then continues onward to the last area of the movie.

The song with the high upbeat choir plays during this fight.
