Didn't quite get this movie (Spoilers)

So Cassie is a witch? But all she seems to do is make loaded remarks to other people and appear out of the blue sometimes - as does her daughter.
Hmmm - is that the extent of her powers?
I felt that Cassie was totally removed from the rest of the somewhat homely cast. She looked like a Marks and Spencer model with a French haircut - she floated everywhere and looked very knowing for very little reason.
Her husband was - well - unremarkable.
His son looked about twelve.
His daughter looked like a refugee and her boyfriend acted like a dope.
His son's girlfriend simply looked ridiculous with her boots and white wedding dress.
I thought she was a selfish thoughtless empty headed idiot.
Who puts a wedding before the dream of a lifetime which was also a potential big money earning career - for what - embroidered napkins?
No explanation that I heard as to why her friend of a week Audrey was determined on Middleton to restart her life - or how her husband found her so easily. And twenty to thirty years jail for what - theft and fraud - at best. He probably wouldn't have served five years.
I kept on wondering why Cassie didn't use her powers to solve situations instead of grinning endlessly and harping on about friends (?)helping each other.
The worst part of this movie was Martha - what a dreadful actress - there was no way in the world she would have been elected Mayor in the real world.
A dud.
