I'll give it a chance...

...you never know.

It can either be interesting or hilarious.

I'm with you! I can't wait!
Walter Blanco!
People forget, we have a lot of shows here that we're adapted from other countries.

reply

Yeah, I can at least give it a few episodes.

I'm curious to see if they'll follow basically the same plot points of Breaking Bad, or branch off and do their own thing.

From what I saw, they were trying to match the color palettes and the clothing - which may seem a lot better than if a "network" show was trying to retell the tale.

Think of a couple factors though...

Could they have access to David Porter's music? Paying him off may be cheaper than having to hire another composer to make lightning strike twice.

Can Vince Gilligan have a cameo?

Would the chicken place be a burger shack? The "across the border" ties with Gus may have to be repurposed.

Would the narcocorrido become a hiphop track?

Can Badger and Skinny Pete be the same actors? (I kid - but funny if so).

So long as the "kid" lead in El Chavo isn't cast as Walt jr. Then again... (I kid again)

1) They do use it.
2) They don't change that.
3) They don't change that either.

I have like what I saw. Obviously they don't have the same budget as the original...but they made do pretty well. I didn't want any episodes with subtitles...and the only glaring thing I may have noticed was no round-bottomed boiling flask?

Since I don't know enough Spanish to totally follow it, I can't be sure if they "respect the chemistry" so to speak. A noble effort though. I wouldn't mind picking it on on DVD if a discount. :)

So the "cross border" element--is it Venezuela or something?

Understanding is a three-edged sword.

reply

No, it's still Mexico.

Which not only doesn't border Colombia, it doesn't even have a land link (there's a gap in the Pan-American Highway in eastern Panama, through very impenetrable jungle called the Darien Gap).

Wow, that really does make no sense.

Should have been Venezuela--lots of smuggling of various goods over that border, and (at least currently) there are some tensions there too. Not sure how the meth trade works in South America (cocaine being the big product there), though.
