This is a scene for scene remake of one of the most popular shows of all time, and from what I've seen, it's done just about as well as Breaking Bad. Is it possible that Spanish speaking people just happen to detest what English speaking people love? This just doesn't make sense to me at all.

It's really really awful. None of the characters come close to the originals and the acting isn't close either.
shareI was curious about that too, and I looked at the breakdown--and saw that the overwhelming majority of votes were either "1"s or "10"s. Yeah. That should tell all, shouldn't it. It would look like a case of playing politics with ratings, although it's only 588 total votes so there doesn't seem to be a lot of the associated vote spamming involved. So maybe it really is that polarizing?
Hmmm, sounds to me like I should judge it for myself. I haven't seen it yet, but I have sort of an interest in Colombia, and possibly visiting and exploring this culturally rich country someday (now that the civil war is over), so I might take a peek at their take on this. I don't expect it to be of the same caliber as the original (which I did give a well-earned 10 to, one of the very few 10 ratings I've given), but maybe somewhere in the 5 to 8 range. We'll see.
I've got a few Colombian films in the queue right now, with Maria Full of Grace at home. Does anyone from Colombia have some recommendations for films that give a good look at life in their country, particularly those not related to the infamous drug trade? And particularly the Caribbean part--Cartagena for sure is on my bucket list to visit. Thanks in advance.

Then again, if it is too much a line-by-line, shot-by-shot copy of the original (as other threads here are saying), that may not bode well. Is it so much of a copy that it doesn't make sense in a Colombian context? I mean, they would have had to change a few things at least.
I would be interested in them making it a truly Colombian story, which would probably have to be very different from the story in the US in a lot of ways. A good remake will make the dialogue, day-to-day actions, and even some parts of the story's entire premise re-fit to the culture and other realities of the host country. I haven't seen the original UK versions of The Office or House of Cards (I plan to see the latter at some point at least), but I imagine the US remakes are pretty removed from the original, in terms of them making sense in an American workplace culture and political context respectively. When I first saw The Office (US) I didn't even know there was a UK version before it, and Spacey's HOC could certainly pass as an American original if someone didn't know better--that means they are good remakes for the target country, if they can pass as their own.
I ask any Colombians here--does the show make sense in a Colombian context? If the original was instead Metastasis, made in Colombia, rather than Breaking Bad made in the US, would that original conception be close to the same as this?
I'll still probably peek at a couple eps at least, but I am getting the sense that it being too much of a carbon copy may have ruined it. Still I'll judge for myself.

Breaking Bad was subtitled in Spanish already.
This show has much lower production value
This shows acting is nowhere near as good.
The Spanish speaking audience can already watch the real show and likely have. You can tell bad acting even in another language so if given the choice between an amazing show with subtitles or a crappy show without I'd pick the amazing show every time.
It looks like a porn parody of Breaking Bad without the porn.

Yay, someone else who's seen Sin tetas no hay paraiso! I loved the original Sin tetas..., crazy-dramatic though it was. I haven't watched much of the Mexican version yet but it seems like they draw it out and change things that didn't need changing--in the Colombian version Catalina's mom Hilda doesn't have a design agency or anything like that, they're just poor and you see why the narco world is appealing to Catalina. She's always been living without and she wants more--but overall I may just quit, as I liked the Colombian better.
As for MT (?) (I can never spell it properly and there's no good way to abbreviate it) I think it looks and plays really bad. It looks super cheap and it's pretty damned cheesy. Some of the casting is flat-out terrible, especially Saul and Hank. I realize I'm viewing it through a cultural divide, so I don't understand all the references--Jose looks like he lives in a palace with that big spiral staircase! The Blancos seem to be in a much lower class wherein Cielo is making Walter's cough syrup for him?
I also think it's tough to step into Cranston's shoes. I was wincing pretty hard throughout the first episode. It's almost unfair to the guy playing him, because you realize just how good Cranston was in the role.
Walt was the role of his career, and he did it great justice.
