Could you all stop using...

... the "America does it all the time" excuse as a reply to those who complain about foreign remakes, because it's invalid. In most of those shows, the pilot is a shot-for-shot remake and after that they write original episodes. In most of Latin America's, every episode is a shot-for-shot remake.

^This. I'm not american, but most foreign shows remade in america I've seen (The Office, Ugly Betty, Shameless just to name a few) are not a mediocre carbon copy of the original show like Metasstasis is.

It is however very common when hit American shows get sold overseas that the scripts get reproduced verbatim in the foreign country. And whose fault is that? What's the problem. That's what people in Columbia or Russia or wherever like apparently.

I heard the explanation that Russian culture is so different from America's that a lot of things, especially jokes, don't translate often. So they make a Russian version with Russian actors actors and settings that the audience can relate to.
There's a Russian version of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It's so bad. Heehee

Yes while the non American show creators try their hardest to sell their hit show to America, which has a relatively massive population of over 300 million people, and pray one of them translates into a hit over here so the money will start coming in, all you non American viewers can continue accusing us of stealing whatever show happens to stick. Ricky Gervais is probably so upset that we stole 'The Office'.
