No surprise it got cancelled.

Had a good premise, perfect balance, great cast the first season...Got renewed... So what does NBC do? Revamp the Show!!

TV Executives, the day they're hired, are scheduled for lobotomy, (You can't work in the TV industry with a whole brain, silly!!) That's the only explanation as to why these morons take something that's working and kill it. This time by dumbing it down into yet another tired police procedural.. (What's the matter? Didn't think we had enough on TV.)
Two episodes into the second season, I dumped it.
There are countless shows that we destroyed this way. After a good first season, IDIOT TV exec say "we'll make it better," by deleting the theme that got it renewed in the first place.

I agree with you and I couldn't pinpoint what was wrong. Season 2 took a big nosedive.

I agree also. I loved the first season and was really disappointed with the cast changes and the revamp. For me it lost it's charm.

It had a great balance of Laura's personal and professional life. I liked the way all the characters interacted and their relationships.

Didn't care for the changes and after a few episodes of season 2 i gave up on it. Tried to pick it back up OnDemand but ended up disappointed all over again.

Fraaaank. FRANK! Get my jean bin. Susie wants my jeans.

It wasn't a great show, but it was entertaining and I enjoyed it. Hate that it ended with a major story line unresolved.

Agree with OP

The second season wasn’t that bad but I did miss the Meg Steedle. Don’t know why she left but I guess it made room for Callie Thorne and a softer Janina Gavankar character. None of which was bad but I preferred the dynamics of season 1.

Its just bad business to film a series to end like this one did.

To know it has been cancelled [watched final episode last night is disappointing. I have enjoyed most of it and Debra did a good job for me being sassy, motherly, lonely, and no doubt hated by many males who still hanker for the chained to the sink daytime and night time happy ender days.

I have no problem with the two seemingly differing seasons. Laura is presented to us a cheated upon woman who now has to cow tow as an underling to a boss who unlike ALL other CAPTAINS wants to be out and about. She is for us undecided about the father of her children and may still have feelings. This does not effectively change as such other than her experimentation with others. This is used to comedic effect and is not used as soft porn space filler. I do not suppose Debra wanted to try this side out. She is obviously shapely and attractive enough but the occasions would not be necessary. The man who did figure for a while was a diversion of a kind.

Callie Thornes arrival. I have seen this lady elsewhere and enjoyed her addition. While as a PIN up she is not there is something attractive about her. Perhaps it is her facial ability. She makes great expressive faces and was a good comedic foil I suppose. If her time was to create a space for the two main characters to interact as a duo and a potential couple for us until a pre arranged demise that was Okay. If we do have a cancellation then I would feel it was actually Debra that was going to have been [wounded to take us through to another season]. Callie Thorne was a useful addition but I did feel that the dipsy lady had comedic potential a well as obvious eye candy if that is your thing. The Captain and the kidnapping did have the look of an enforced plot to as I see now end the story. The fact that we now do not know Debra ex's intentions leaves a bit of a sour taste. Debra needs him to be a rat again to satisfy her wishes? If he throws away this newly found love he would only be seen as doubly in sex and love rat.

We could all care a lot more if both our leads had been celibate in our time with the story.

I will miss Debra. I enjoyed her interpretation of the [overly busy and overly capable] single mother due to ratty husband in a male dominated dangerous job.

I agree with the OP. Season 1 was perfect! I loved Laura and Billy being a team because they worked great together. season 2 changed way too much and I did not enjoy it as much.
