he left his sons to their own devices allot yeah but most single parent have to, he wasn't abbusive physically or mentally actually In my opinion he had allot of patience when it came to Jacob

shareHe wasn't an abusive dad but he was neglectful and emotionally distant. He might have loved his kids, but he didn't even try to go to counseling and he missed court dates. The consequences of those actions were pretty clearly spelled out to him. It's difficult to see families being torn apart though and you want to see them make it though.
shareyou act like he was just leaving them home for a night or to. when the mother died, he left them alone for WEEKS. it sounds like Jacob was a pretty decent kid before his mother died, he is obviously going through a-lot, and it made problems even worse when his father just ditched him.
