A shame

In a world full of lack luster programming it's a shame they couldn't find a home for Vinyl, it really had potential going into season 2, first that Jack Black show then True Detective, what else does HBO have to be considered a rival to Fox or AMC?

reply

Not really in my opinion, they need to focus on.shows.with more potential. True Detective season 1, was a great show, story, directing, acting, and writing. Season 2 however lost almost all of it, the.acting was still great, story was redundant and not executed well, the loss of director, Cary Fukunaga damaged the show. Brink seems like it got all it had to across in season 1 and not much to build from, and Vinyl was just bad. Again my opinions however. Westworld I'm excited for.

reply

Westworld does look very good. I can see why people thought the show was a mess, the first 5 episodes are very messy, as for TD, I think it could of done well with a 3rd season, if they are given time to write a 3rd season and get the direction back on track it could do well, yeah looking back you could be right about the brink

reply

Westworld is not as good as people make it out to be unfortunately. & Vinyl is ok but has a lot of potential to be really really good, they should not have let it go nor Winter. HBO has made bad decisions before like the cancellation of Carnivale & Rome, 2 extremely excellent shows that were axed because it was expensive. HBO probably found Vinyl too expensive to give it a second chance.

& btw, people saying this was very bad or that this is very good are not being honest with themselves, 2 extremes of the same coin.

reply

Right now it seems like most new shows on HBO are very lucky to get a second season...

I can't believe how much I'm bothered by the cancellation. I've never really given a damn when a show got canceled until now (maybe Deadwood).

Yes, the first episode was just OK, but I felt the show really picked up steam and by the end, it was brilliant.

It annoys me even more that they brought in some new exec who immediately canceled the show...which was probably because it didn't make a ton of money.

Music has already been ruined by greed and just when it seemed like TV was going in the right direction...especially HBO...they axe Vinyl and keep junk like Ballers?

The biggest criticisms I heard about Vinyl is that it's cliche...well...the 1970s was a cliche!! The other argument about people not listening to that kind of music anymore is just retarded so there's no reason to even address it. That is a cliche assessment by a cliche millennial (even though I'm a millennial as well).

Anyway, this tells me that HBO will say goodbye to big budget shows like Game of Thrones and welcome low budget trash
like Ballers.

Hopefully Netflix, Showtime and others don't follow suit.

I hope Vinyl get some Emmy awards' nominations and shut some mouths!

It was a great first season and I can't understand why they are letting this show die. Shame on you, HBO!

reply

The shame is that they cancelled Boardwalk Empire to make this.

So they canceled a great, great show just to cancel another (IMO) great show?

What in the world is going on?!?

Boardwalk was on of the best shows ever made. I felt Vinyl had a good chance of getting into that same rarified air, but now we'll never know. Had I known Vinyl would be done after one season, then I would've never watched it.

A couple more seasons of BE would've been fantastic. Looks like HBO wants immediate return or else...

reply

eljuma - they didn't cancel 'Boardwalk Empire', it ended. I think there's a big difference.

reply

Boardwalk was envisioned as a seven season show. After season 4 they told them that season 5 would be shorter and the lastone. HBO had that little decency to the BE crew, giving them an opportunity to wrap things up, but it was a cancelation still.

reply

Boardwalk unfortunately lost its way after Pitt leaving. & if the rumors are true, then it really is unfortunate that the demise of a great show was due to an actor's personal problems. But then again, they saved it with the introduction of a great mesmerizing antagonist with Cannavale's character to Buscemi's, only to kill him off within season 3. BE was really only good for its first 3 seasons. As good as Buscemi is as an actor, he simply wasn't able to carry the show.

Ah, well. That's showbiz.

This show was ridiculous, so no real loss.

The only early cancellations that really bothered me were "The Riches," and "Luck."

- The latter getting cancelled just as it was starting to really cook.

I'd have given it another series too.
