Fantastic Beasts is Harry Potter's answer to The Hobbit

Harry Potter comes along and offers wonderful stories, interesting plots, fascinating characters, and just the right blend of live action practical effects and CGI only when needed, along with Lord of the Rings. These movies are heralded as fantasy epics and extremely popular and critically acclaimed.

Then comes the Hobbit, which is basically too long, too CGI-ey and also a lame cash-in, which is rightfully ridiculed and lambasted by the former fans, and the trilogy is inferior. This was the prequel to LOTR.

And now comes the prequel trilogy to Harry Potter, and it's proving to be just as long, too CGI-ey and also a lame cash-in. The remainder of this trilogy will crash and burn, and is best forgotten, as is The Hobbit.

I rest my case for the prosecution.

Hobbit was inferior, but still pretty good. This series has potential. I think Yates did a much better job here than on any of the HP films. I really disliked what he did to Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows.

You can't be serious? Hobbit had ridiculous CGI orcs and Legolas behaving like a god warrior, not to mention all other kinds of CGI "stunt" crap that was not in LOTR (mostly) and Beasts had a subplot about a senator and his son, an anti-witch brigade, and some freak Slytherin wannabe who became a stupid swirl of black CGI spaghetti in the climax. And not to mention the excessive use of CGI to "repair" New York, when no Muggle (I refuse to call them that No-Maj crap) could fail to spot the wizards doing their thing. And Johnny Depp as Grindelwald at the end? Fuck that shit! And whilst Harry Potter was a pleasant series of fantasy movies with Muggles and the Ministry of Magic, we had that MACUSA shit, No-Majs (hardly catchy names) and nasty execution methods.

Face it, Rowling really lost the plot after she finished the Harry Potter series. Outing Dumbledore as gay, changing her mind about the Ron/Hermione final relationship and the apparent shitfest that was the Cursed Child to THIS MOVIE? Forget it.

"Super Legolas" was ridiculous, I agree.

I disagree, this movie is no Best Picture but it's way better than the mess that was "The Hobbit" films!

But then, my idiot cat who gets lost on the cat tree could make a better version than Peter Jackson's.

This is exactly what I thought! Both are subpar studio cash-ins on massive franchises.
