They look awesome! Can't wait for this movie!

Great posters..... but totally gave away that Percival Graves is actually Gellert Grindelwald.

reply

Seems like an odd choice to name drop him in the last trailer and then show that in the poster. Unless it's a red herring, an elaborate one at that

reply

Not really, that out of place. Especially, when you consider that Percival Graves, is the one to namedrop Dumbledore. If you look closely at the New York Ghost newspaper, in previous trailers, there are several headlines regarding an international wizard hunt, for Gellert Grindelwald.... without any pictures! It would not surprise me, if he has been missing since the end of WWI.

The official synopsis:

There are growing dangers in the wizarding world of 1926 New York. Something mysterious is leaving a path of destruction in the streets, threatening to expose the wizarding community to the Second Salemers, a fanatical faction of No-Majs (American for Muggles) bent on eradicating them. And the powerful, dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, after wreaking havoc in Europe, has slipped away… and is now nowhere to be found.

Unaware of the rising tensions, Newt Scamander arrives in the city nearing the end of a global excursion to research and rescue magical creatures, some of which are safeguarded in the hidden dimensions of his deceptively nondescript leather case. But potential disaster strikes when unsuspecting No-Maj Jacob Kowalski inadvertently lets some of Newt’s beasts loose in a city already on edge—a serious breach of the Statute of Secrecy that former Auror Tina Goldstein jumps on, seeing her chance to regain her post. However, things take an ominous turn when Percival Graves, the enigmatic Director of Magical Security at MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), casts his suspicions on both Newt… and Tina.

Now allied, Newt and Tina, together with Tina’s sister, Queenie, and their new No-Maj friend, Jacob, form a band of unlikely heroes, who must recover Newt’s missing beasts before they come to harm. But the stakes are higher than these four outsiders—now branded fugitives—ever imagined, as their mission puts them on a collision course with dark forces that could push the wizarding and No-Maj worlds to the brink of war.

At this point, the bigger twist would be for Percival Graves to exactly who he claims to be. A overworked and powerful Auror, dealing with a potential war.

The real twist could end up being that Graves is a mere pawn in someone else's game - maybe Credence? Or even Mary Lou?

Who knows. Rowling got a lot better with red herrings and whodunits over the years, specially in the Cormoran Strike series. Maybe she'll put that ability to good use.

reply

I personally think nothing can top Prisoner of Azkaban. I've yet to see anyone guessing this solution, even though all the clues were there.

reply

Agreed.... after Prisoner of Azkaban, all the twists were incredibly obvious. I have yet to meet someone who did not know that R.A.B was Sirius' younger brother, or that Dumbledore planned his death with Snape. Which is partially the reason, many felt the Elder Wand was just a deus ex machina.

reply

I don't think R.A.B. was ever meant to be a twist. I'd rather call it a hint. Surely JKR could have guessed that after HBP basically every fan would look up, which characters has fitting initials.

With Snape, I think the problem was, that people had two years time to guess/theorize. If he had killed Dumbledore at the beginning of Deathly Hallows, maybe fans would have been more surprised. But of course then HBP would have lost most of it's impact, so it wouldn't have been worth it.

I find the twist in Snape's worst memory fantastic, by the way (she even used the chapter title!), and within the Potter books second only to Scabbers' true identity. Here's the big revelation that Harry's father bullied Snape, and after OotP everybody was understandably talking about this. While in fact the really important part of the memory was the end of Snape's friendship with Lily.

That is what WB and J.K. Rowling want you to think. With all her emphasis on the danger the Second Salemers pose, it is pretty obvious that they are just pawns to a wizard.

reply

This is definitely true about Mary Lou. But if we see poor Credence being bullied by his mother and manipulated by Graves, I don't think much people would suspect him as the mastermind behind it all.

reply

Credence might be manipulated into murdering his mother, and becoming Grindelwald's second-in-command. He probably set the monster, that is terrorizing NYC before Newt showed up, loose. Ezra Miller is incredibly talented when it comes to portraying disturbed characters, and Credence has a similar look to Alex from A Clockwork Orange. While not the most original of twists, it could be effective. Since, J.K. Rowling never had an evil muggleborn. In the HP series, muggleborns were portrayed as the victims.

reply

Wait are you just speculating?

reply

Because lord knows people actually collect these fcking things.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

reply

Goblin looks really bad, shouldnt use a poster like that to advertise your effects.

reply

exactly... the goblin in the comic con trailer looks so photo realistic though... they should have used that image instead.
