Grindelwald is confirmed as the big baddie

Now that he is confirmed as the big baddie of the franchise, it is almost certain that young Dumbledore will appear also, right?

This is so exciting!! Looking very much forward to this franchise now

Middle-aged Dumbledore will probably just be a supporting character, similar to how he was in the Harry Potter series. The main difference is that in this story, the lead protagonist would not be defeating the main villain. The Fantastic Beasts series will probably focus, on what the wizarding world was doing leading up to and during WWII. A good bet would be, that we will be seeing the wizarding versions of the Allies and Axis armies. Though, I would not be surprised, if the U.K. wizards will be portrayed as somewhat neutral.

That's why I imagine Dumbledore will get a decent role in later films. Not become the star but more than just small cameos or bit roles since he is the one to defeat Grindelwald.
I imagine that some of the other characters will play a big role int eh final battle though to be able to give them focus too.

Holy *beep* that sounds EPIC!! Wizards during WW2, I really hope we will see that:-)

Did Grindelwald support the nazis?

J.K. Rowling implied, that Grindelwald took advantage of the political upheaval in Germany to help prove his point, that non-wizards were destructive and incapable of governing the world.

I have to say his inclusion is kind of "meh" considering how he was wasted in Deathly Hallows. He freely gives Voldemort the information he seeks, as opposed to just laughing in his face and goading Voldemort to kill him as he refuses to help him. So seeing him as a "badass" now is diminished considering how pathetic he winds up being, as opposed to his defiant to the very end attitude that he displayed in the book.

reply

I don't know about that. He wasn't that pathetic in DH Part 1, he seemed genuinely happy to help Voldemort out which just motivates audiences to believe he's really just as evil and sinister as Voldemort is. And let's be fair, quite a few don't even remember his inclusion in the original series - aaand that's 70 years in the future.

Perhaps, you should read the book?
Grindelwald thought of Voldemort as nothing more than a powerful idiot, and mocked him for his ignorance. He did not divulge the location of the Elder Wand, only that Voldemort would never be able to be its master.

reply

I did read the book, that's why I don't like Grindelwald in the films because in the movies he DID give Voldemort information about the Elder Wand as opposed to in the book where he laughed at him and mocked him.

Since the new movies are written by JKR I see them as a prequel to the books and not as a prequel to the movies.

reply

It's shared canon, as I see it. They'll stay away from anything that's contradictory.

Agreed.... the Fantastic Beasts franchise is set in the books' canon. Meaning that Grindelwald never told Voldemort where the Elder Wand was hidden, and Harry reburied it with Dumbledore in the hopes of dying naturally.

reply

That is interesting.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.
