Johnny Depp almost ruined fantastic movie.

SPOILER WARNING

Why does he need a cringeworthy cameo? Desperately trying to look like the late David Bowie he just looks like an old, bloated alcoholic. I mean - whats the point? Colin Farell was the far more scarier wizard. Seeing JD emerging as Grindelwald is just laughable.

It was so hack. They did the Grindewald headlines in the beginning and then they shoved him in at the end when everyone had forgotten. This is probably the result of the screen writers and executives bullying JK Rowlings for creative control because their main goal is to make a sequel. But I think with a little work they could of done something so much better. Graves as a recurring character would of been more interesting.

reply

Agreed, cringy af ending, I would've preferred Graves' character in the sequel - it was a stupid "reveal".

reply

guess im in the minority, but i liked JD as Grindelwald, and im not a huge Depp fan.

reply

I didn't see a problem with it, but I didn't really like/dislike it.

reply

I had no problem with him either.

reply

Johnny Depp scene was too campy but there's four more movies left, so plenty of time to get the act together and perhaps leave many people happily surprised.

I hope Graves somehow survives because Colin Farrel was just perfect in this movie.

Unpopular opinion... Depp’s small cameo (it’s unfair to compare his “cringey” seconds on screen to Farrell’s performance) was effective and I absolutely look forward to his starring role in the sequel. Depp can be hit and miss these days to people, but I expect him to give a gloriously menacing performance as Grindelwald.

One other thing. In terms of the way he looks, it is not like he came up with that look himself (or did he?). Nevertheless, I fail to see a problem with his flamboyant evil Wizard appearance.
