Movie Spoiler

I think it was a mistake to stick the live action footage in the movie. Abreu was already going on a tangent with the plotthread about the way industry is structured; it felt more like a lecturer's perspective than a little boy's perspective. Switch to live action at the end just made Abreu's points preachy, and it wimps out on the premise that animation could make the point on its own.

Totally agree. I think it really hurt the movie. The message was pretty obvious with only the animation, but I guess they really really wanted everyone to get the point.

I agree entirely.
It became too expository. It's not only dialogues that can be overly expository, those kind of images can also.

As the Trivie sections says, it started as a documentary. So I think Abreu got attached to those footages and had to find a place to put them.

But it's just a little problem on a very sensible animation.

I don't think it hurt the movie that much, but it was out of place. This is a most depressing movie by the way.

Poorly Lived and Poorly Died, Poorly Buried and No One Cried

The movie got a little stupid at that point.

Like,

"Life is so horrible on the farm we gotta go get horrible factory jobs."
"Our horrible factory jobs are so horrible."
"Oh, no, we're losing our horrible factory jobs!"

I go to the movies more than you.

The movie lost me at that point. I do agree with the message, but the way it shoved it in your face is totally pointless and unneeded. It was no longer a little boy's perspective at that point, it was the filmmaker preaching it and that nearly killed the film for me.

"Ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?"
