Melissa is not very likeable

The acting is a bit over the top sometimes on this show. I feel like if they just had better directing they would be better. The "family" is so shrewish. Maggie can be such a total bi-ch, it is too much. I realize she is suppose to be this amazing doctor so we like her take charge personality, but I find the two sisters and the Dad to be like a little clique to the detriment of others.

I hadnt noticed a problem with the acting or directing, seems ok to me. Most hospitals are incredibly cliquey places though so Im not surprised that the family sticks together.
I also like the fact that the family are all pretty severely flawed...much more interesting to watch them all implode. Would be sooo boring if they were all Sandy!!LOL

Yes watching them implode is fun. Also I like how they have the Mom as an unapologetic alcoholic. They never show that on TV. She is a highly functioning alcoholic who makes no bones about it and keeps going. Even though she has hurt her family tremendously. We have one of those in my family. It is more real out there than people in recovery.
Unfortunately a whole of lot of addicts never make it to recovery and don't want to.

Check out American Crime. The female addict has everything but the chipped front tooth. Most fleshed out addict character since Bubbles in The Wire.

You are right statistically. One out of five who need recovery/rehab ever make it through the front door, and of those maybe one in five stays for the duration. I tell my story once a year, and I start off by saying that if you have already heard it, that's a good thing. 75% of those who heard it last year aren't here tonight, and 75% of the people in this room right now won't be here next year. It is up to you to decide which group you want to be a member of. Shows like this which reinforce "enabling behavior" as the norm aren't helping.

I think my percentage of Chimp DNA is higher than others. Cleaver Greene
