Would not have cut her feet, anyway, that glass. A little bit smarter writing and some changes, instead of going with the first draft of the script and this would've been a neat film. :)

You're right. There were a few scenes I didn't cringe on. This was pretty bad.

reply

Agreed. Alex was truly awful. I've never rooted so hard for a main character to die than I did watching her stumble through her lines.

reply

Agreed.

That's just it. They keep coming out with these movies that tells the same old story. How many different times must we see a woman take on an army of men and prevail? I've got nothing against the actresses in those movies. It's just the idea that I've seen the same movie over and over again just with different characters and settings.

Where is the movie where a man takes on an army of women and prevails? Can't find any huh? Me neither. I wish this double standard would go away sometime soon.

Doghouse might be your new favorite film. I believe it was about three men who take on a mob of female cannibals on an island lol. There is no doubt that it's become trendy to show slender, sexy women as heroes who beat up men. Perhaps it all started with Kill Bill, although those movies were great. I enjoyed Hannah as well. Salt, Colombiana and Everly were borderline ridiculous. It's certainly a sign that times have changed, and it's also a reflection of the feminist movement demanding that women be show as powerful, independent, and of course better than men.

reply

What's wrong with that? The history of humanity has displayed men as powerful, independent and better than women and you have no problem with that? But the moment a few movies come out that show women as powerful, independent and capable of defeating men, all of a sudden you're going to complain? Lol. Typical. Hypocrites.

Also, size and strength have nothing to do with it. Bruce Lee and millions of other martial arts experts before and after him have shown this for centuries. Bruce Lee was fairly small (5'7" and about 130 lbs), but took down guys twice his size. But a woman about his size (Olga Kurylenko is 5'8 3/4") doing the same in a movie "OMG it's so implausible! Waaaaah!" *man tears* What a joke. I don't see you whining about Jet Li taking down Nathan Jones in Fearless.

What's cringe worthy is your misogyny.

reply

Bruce Lee had talent. The examples given here are all of characters who did not show their talent in a convincing enough way. Haywire I think showed a female character convincingly beat up guys bigger than her.

reply

Sure, but there are plenty of other male action stars who don't convincingly show talent, but this same criticism isn't lodged at them. I used Bruce Lee and Jet Li as examples only to illustrate that size has nothing to do with anything, and that their logic is inconsistent: when a smaller man takes down larger man it's "Awww, it's so cool!", but when a smaller woman takes down larger man it's "Waaah, it's so implausible!"

Men, in particular, are excessively and unfairly critical of women in such roles, and they nitpick on everything in a way they don't when it's a man in that role.

reply

Usually it depends on the choreographer. You need the right choreography to match the actresses build (just like smaller people are more suited to certain martial arts and self defense moves - it's common sense). The most common example I can give is that of Angelina Jolie in Salt. Great movie, acted well enough, but she was let down by a bad wardrobe and some stunts that were not suited to her frame. Her physicality did not convice because of that. Roger Moore was heavily criticised for View to a Kill, for being too old, however the action scenes in that movie were (mostly) choreographed to accommodate his advancing years.

For TV the new Nikita I am finding to be a big let down, bad acting and Maggie Q's fights are not quite convincing enough. Alias on the other hand works really well. It depends on the talent and the tone of the show too.

reply

Typical feminist. Anyone who doesn't put down men and give women favorable treatment must be a misogynist.

reply

There is a Russian movie that came out a few years back like that

reply

Yes, it was absolutely horrible ... especially those poorly filmed, unrealistic fight scenes.

I think the fault is 60% director, 40% writers. I didn't expect Campanelli going back to his B movie roots for this film. What a shame....

reply

It is not cringe wroth but I would say a 5 is a good score to give it. The dialog especially during her torture and at the airport is *beep* and done to prolong the movie time. Their attempt to create tension is not that good.

She is pretty but so what? She put on a good performance but that does not mean I should be so taken by her looks that I will compromise the standard of acting when compared to other actress acting in similar roles.

One should NOT be so easily turn on that you get all bias and score higher and praise it for more then its worth. Doig so will not get you date with her and fame.

Slender thin arms are sexy to look on a women personally but really... someone that skinny will beat up guys 3 to 4 times her size is silly but it is a work of friction so I will it go and stretch my imagination a bit.

Put Ronda Rousey in the role that would be more believable as someone who can fight.

I feel 5 is the most I can give it for this movie for sure.

Morgan was not even properly directed unlike by better directors to deliver his lines. This is not his best work but guy has to make a living.

Saying that the film is rubbish is simply telling the truth.
