The Real Problem With This Show

Look, we can talk about how he doesn't look like a prince, or how the women should be able to realize "Harry's" story doesn't add up, but there's a point that is seemingly ignored in all of this:

Citizenship.

Even if he finds the woman of his dreams that appreciates him for Matt, not Harry, eventually she will need to go back home once her Visa runs out, if she even stays at all. But it's dumb to even say "if she stays," since I guarantee they shipped the winner back state side in order to wait for the show to be edited and all the episodes to air on TV.

I wonder if during the taping Matt even considered the fact he and the women hold different citizenship, and in the *best* case scenario someone would need to apply for citizenship to a new country, be it his partner applying to become a Brit or him applying to become an "Amurrick'n." Either way, citizenship is not an easy task.

(I'm well aware that I'm probably over thinking things in relation to such a silly and dumb show)

Still, even if Matt isn't the poster child foreigner that anti immigration activists are fighting to keep out of the country(re: Meh-heecans), I doubt they'd want some limey Brit coming over here and "tak'n 'hour whoa-mens" either. Meanwhile, lord knows how hard it probbly is to immigrate to the British Isles.

long distance romances are not impossible. If it worked out they could get married and that would solve the problem

reply

Not impossible, but I seriously doubt that any of these women are up for the task. Even if they COULD handle a long distance relationship, it becomes a long distance relationship almost immediately after he admits he lied to them. There is no chance for a honeymoon or even a real 1 on 1 dating period.

The reality formula is the same... if she decides to overlook his lie, they'll get 1 night together, and then she is whisked away to pretend like nothing happened for 6-8 months while the tape is edited and broadcast. By the time the finale is over one of them has already gotten horny and bored, and the relationship is over.

I don't think the producers of the show care about that. They are just looking for ratings.

If this really was Harry and he struck up a meaningful relationship with a foreigner, I'm sure that exceptions would be made to allow her to continue to date a member of the royal family. I mean, he is one of the ruling family of England.

However, he is not. If Matt actually liked one of the girls enough, and she liked him, they could get married and then all the visa and citizenship problems go away.

And, if all that doesn't work out, they could try a long-distance relationship. Those are hard, but they sometimes can work out in the long run.

I don't think Harry 'Matt' is looking for love nor are the women on the show. They are most likely getting pay for episode and the longer they stay the more they get paid. If you look up the girls then you will see that they are only telling 25% of there story. The internet kill the show from the beginning because its too hard to fool peopl on TV now more so on the 5 channels ABC, Fox, NBC and CBS.

Visa problems don't matter with British and Americans. They don't need a visa to go to each others countries, at all( though for limited periods at a time). Even if they did need visas, the fiance visa is the easiest visa to get, at least on the American side, and marriage based green card and then citizenship is also the easiest and by far the fastest possibility.

It's not citizenship that's the issue, it's residence. You can stay in a country forever without becoming a citizen if you have permanent residence. Marriage is probably the easiest way to get residence, especially when the country of emigration isn't one that people aren't desperate to get out of. I was really disappointed at how easy my green card interview was; I thought they were gonna take us in separate rooms and ask us what colors our toothbrushes were, but he just looked at our documents and wedding photos and that was it.

Without getting married it would be difficult to get residence, but they could visit back and forth as much as they wanted.
