Happier Ending

Than the book at least.

Still not a happy everything is tied neatly in a bow ending, but the movie ends on a more uplifting note, which probably says a lot about the book.

also realized they cut the part of Danny and Brooke to very minor characters, where in the book it ends on them in a pretty horrific scene.

Hes taking her virginity but is like angry when does it...if I remember correctly how the book ends.

reply

yes, and that's why I say it's kinda horrific, the losing of her virginity in that manner of a 13 year old girl could be traumatic. Losing your virginity doesn't have to be rose petals and romantic music in the background, but it should be a semi-pleasurable experience that isn't borderline rape.

I thought it was a bold move for the book to end like that.

reply

I thought the book was interesting and cant wait for the movie, but the book is so graphic.

reply

The movie definitely captures the mood of the book, but of course it's not as graphic because it involves young teens and wanted to avoid an NC-17 rating.

but if you liked the book you should like the movie.

and if you liked the book there are plenty other just as graphic sexual exploit tales from Chad Kultgen's mind

I had started reading the average American male but paused, should try again?

What is the lie about? basic plot?

reply

The average American Male is my least favorite of his work and made me pray that this is not the average american male. and fear mankind if more than a men are like that.

But The Lie is terrific, my favorite. In a nutshell it's a really messed up tale of a guy getting revenge on completely shallow girl. And kultgen sets up the arc wonderfully.

I know some people have issue with how kultgen depicts women in his book, but there are no heroes in his book, men are portrayed just a horribly in my opinion.

I'm guessing they decided the scene didn't add anything to the story. Brooke and Danny were definitely more major characters, even in the script. Some people are already saying there are too many story lines... I think excising them was a reasonable option as they're not as interconnected as the others and that scene would have been a really crappy way to end the film.

In the book Brandy was in a competition with Hannah - she couldn't stand if Hannah did something before she did to gain higher social standing. Hannah used Chris simply to say she wasn't a virgin, while Brandy had been seeing Danny for a year so she thought it was more natural for them to 'have done it' by that time. None of the kid sex in the book is good sex.

How did the movie differ from the book ending??

reply

Tim's Fate in the book is never revealed. It ends with his father holding his son crying and 911 enroute to help.

Brandy never goes to see tim, her mom confronts her about the tim, and makes Brandy write an apology letter to her for all the lies.

Adam Sandler's Charectar never confronts his wife. He does find the Ashley madison site, but realizes that since he been cheating he can't fault her. His story ends with him missing his wife and searching for an escort that resembles her.

the wife story ends with her engaged in kinkier sex with her african american lover and performing a rim job on him, it even mentions how she as the smell of anus on her nostrils.

Hannah story ends with her begging chris truby to bring back her website, cause she "wants all her fans back." She promises to indulge chris's sexual oddities if he creates it again and runs it for her. It's implied that Hannah will become a porn star.

I forgot what happens to Allison in the end. She does have the abortion and the kid begs her not to tell anyone about it.

the other football kid that is the main charecter who hasn't had sex with his GF finally does, but he is actually angry with her when he does it causing it be more rougher and a painful first time for her. She smiling at being with him, but crying because it hurts so much.

the stories alos end abruptly with little closure.
