I guess I'm being a little stereotypical..

But Tim did not "look" like a football player. And the Guy he beat up in the cafeteria definitely didn't either nor did the other guy that was cussing him in the caf.

I don't know...what are they supposed to look like? Ansel Elgort played a jock in Carrie as well.

Actors do not have a job...they have a blast!

Right? I mean, high school kids are like half-formed as it is--at least these looked like actual high school kids, instead of like Robbie Ammell playing a high school football player in The Duff with his well developed man-muscles, looking nowhere NEAR seventeen. :P

Never settle with words what you can accomplish with a flamethrower.

"I mean, high school kids are like half-formed as it is"

LOL. half-formed

99% of the kids I went to school with were done growing before 15. Guys don't have to be muscle bound Hulks to play high school football, just good athletes. At least Elgort is like 6-2.

The OP raises a good point. Football is a very physical game. At the highest levels, everybody is jacked and ripped, so strategy, scheme and preparation are what separates the players. But at the lower levels, you can easily see bigger, stronger, and faster athletes easily dominate the others. But keep in mind, many NFL players show strong skills early on, and develop the bulk later. If you look at a player like Ed Reed, he was playing QB, DB, and KR in high school, and wasn't exactly the bulkiness or biggest guy on the field. I'd imagine that this guy was playing 3-way too if he was taking the team to championships on his back.

In the late 90's I lived in a townhouse complex with several Redskins players. The tight end Terry Orr and defensive tackle Jump Geathers were very muscular. There was a defensive back who was under six foot, trim and athletic looking, but nothing screaming 'professional athlete.' The quarter back Mark Rypien had a muffin belly and looked like any other dad with his kids at the swimming pool. Then I found out the guy right next door was a pro soccer player, very fit but I didn't guess he was an athlete.

Keep in mind that positions like WR and DB are usually easier if you're 5'10" - 6'. It's been a growing trend to have 6'4" WR's (who are either niche specialists or superstars) but really, having the agility and route running ability is near impossible taller than 6'. DB's almost always need to be about 6' due to the demands on their body to keep up for 5-10 seconds (but they need to be able to jump high).
