Seriously, it's 2015 and a non-fictional movie taking place in the state of Texas has no other than white people in the lead cast? That's absolutely pathetic. I actually really liked the story but the lack of diversity in the cast was just plain embarrassing
I just watched the movie in its entirety and saw two black men- one is the Ashley Madison escort. The second character is the guidance counselor or whomever, talking to Tim after he beat the crap out of the a-hole jock in the cafeteria.

I first noticed it in the lack of black football players, it seems the writers or directors went out of their way to exclude which is a shame because I think this is a really wonderful, deep, philosophical and moving movie that gets at the heart of HUMAN existence. For that, I am willing to overlook that small omission.
This movie is about HUMANITY'S foibles. That subject has no color or race. It would have been CORRECT to include OTHERS who share the planet other thank just lily whites...especially since that is the reality.
If you see my comments as simply "political correctness" then it is YOU who have a jaundice view of REALITY. The point being made by the movie is true of ALL mankind...hence the title of the film. After all, we ALL share the PALE BLUE DOT and much of what we DO or DON'T DO in our lives, in the grand scheme of things, matters little ANYWAY!

Some people might not realize it, but a very large part of the country is all white. Would people but up in arms if they showed a community in downtown Baltimore or Detroit that was all black and true to form?
So yeah...I'd just like to point out that the characters from the book are white suburban kids (8th grade mostly) and most (if not all) are that stereotypical spoiled suburban white kid....so the movie just stayed true to the book. As an avid Chad Kultgen reader, it's not about the race, these families just happen to be white, his works tend to focus on the sexualization of society, be it good, bad, or ugly...and yes in this case it is "all about sex baby!" So anyone who tries to inject race into a story where there is no race issue (as we've established it's about sex) is either seeking attention or rabble rousing...and the best way to beat down the rabble rousers is just ignore them (of any color; white, black, beige, blue, purple)...they will keeps yelling, even louder perhaps but eventually their voices will fail with their message falling on deaf ears.
