Bravo for the serious step up from Oculus

Terrifying and heartbreaking at the same time - out there with The Baddabook and Mungo Lake.

I sure hope so because I thought Oculus was a steaming pile of *beep* The other two however, are two of my favorites. Going to watch Before I Wake within the next couple days.

Just watched Flanagan's Absentia.
Was very reluctant, but it turned out even better than Before I Wake!
Now I need to see Hush. Hopefully Oculus was just one bad apple.
(what about Flanagan's earlier work?)
Will need to take a break before I try another horror, though... 😱

I was about to watch Oculus right now and seen that Before I Wake was online. After reading the boards and all of the knowledge I previously had about Before I Wake, I think I'll go with Oculus. I've seen the Cinema Sins video on Oculus and even though I know everything that will happen, it still looks more interesting than Before I Wake. I tried watching As Above So Below twice in the past week and fell asleep on it both times. Third times the charm they say? I will likely get around to watching Before I Wake eventually and am not here to bash this film, I only just now found out about its release online and came to the boards to get the scoop on how and why it was online. I'll watch the trailer for Before I Wake again but I'll probably end up going with Oculus. Knowing what happens before watching doesn't ruin a movie for me. If I didn't spoil The Boy and The Witch for myself by reading the IMDb message boards before going to see them at the theater, I'm confident I would have been disappointed in both. I ended up really liking both of those films because I knew what I was getting into. The Boy's ending (which I won't spoil here) would have pissed me off something serious and likely ruined the movie for me if I didn't already know what was going on. As for The Witch, I wasn't even going to go see it until I read that it was essentially a period piece and I ended up really enjoying it. If I had went in expecting a real horror movie, I would have probably hated it. I've spoiled Before I Wake for myself and know what will happen and if I didn't, I know I'd hate the movie. I don't spoil every movie though, just the ones I'm weary about. The Other Side of The Door was the best of the 2016 horror films in my opinion and I had no knowledge of it going into it other than it was supposed to have been a wide release and got demoted to 500+ theaters. Luckily about 30 minutes away from me there was a theater that had the film. A lot of people dismiss it and even more people have never seen it but I think it is worth a watch to see for yourself. Ah, I'm just babbling at this point.
