how close of an adaptation to the book is this?

I'm thinking of watching it but I don't want to be disappointed for it not being a close adaptation to the book, and after finding out its only about an hour and fourty-five minutes i'm a bit worried.

For someone else who has read the book, how does it hold up?

It's not really close. I was pretty disappointed. Most characters end up being walking clichés or passing plot devices, like Tabitha, and most of the main characters don't fare much better.

It's as if the director didn't fully get what the book was about and just made her own version of some cool "female empowerment through sex" movie with a teenage protagonist.

Looks like Gloeckner thought the movie was neat but mostly missing the point and I have to agree
